Details on the storm timing, locations most at risk, and hazard severity will be refined as we head through first half of the week. Severe weather chances increase on Thursday and Friday this week. Thursday through Thursday night has a marginal risk for isolated severe storms mainly in central and northwest Iowa. Timing of the strongest storms looks to be in the afternoon through evening. On Friday, similar locations in central and northwest Iowa are in a slight risk (level 2/5) for scattered severe storms. Some uncertainty still remains in expected timing and location of the storms on Friday.

Worth County Announces Disaster Assistance Resources Following Severe Weather



WORTH COUNTY, IA — Following the severe weather that took place on May 17th 2026, Governor Kim Reynolds has issued a disaster proclamation for Worth County. This proclamation activates the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program.

Disaster Assistance for Residents

Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program

Grant Amount: Qualifying households may receive up to $7,000.

Eligibility: Grants are available to households with incomes up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level. Household members are citizens or legally residing in the United States. 2026 National Poverty Guidelines table, .
Income levels for household sizes at 200% of the federal poverty level. $31,920 = 1 person, $43,280 = 2 people, $54,640 = 3 people, $66,000 = 4 people, $77,360 = 5 people, $88,720 = 6 people, $100,080 = 7 people, $111,440 = 8 people.

Covered Expenses: Funds can be used for home or car repairs, replacement of personal property or food, and temporary housing expenses that are not covered by insurance or met by another assistance program.

Disaster Case Advocacy Program

Eligibility: There are no income requirements for this program, and no cost.

Services: Case advocates work directly with residents to create personalized recovery plans and provide guidance and referrals to necessary services.

Residents can find applications for the Iowa Individual Assistance Grant Program and further details on the Disaster Case Advocacy Program by visiting the Iowa Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website at Homelandsecurity.iowa.gov/assistance

Gov. Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation for Emmet, Hancock, Palo Alto, Plymouth, Pocahontas, Winnebago, Woodbury, and Worth Counties in response to severe weather that occurred on May 15, 2026, and continuing.
