Earlier this week, we had the joy of welcoming the inspiring program We Are Enough, led by Brien McMahon High School graduates Samantha and Kabir. Their engaging sessions helped students explore what makes them unique, while building empathy, embracing diversity, and fostering a strong sense of community. 🌟🌍

The program encourages students to celebrate their own identities and to appreciate the differences in others—with the goal of creating inclusive classrooms where everyone feels seen, valued, and accepted. 💙

Thank you, Samantha and Kabir, for helping our students see that who they are is more than enough. ✨

Yay to Ms. Suda's class! Such a cool opportunity!

Congratulations to Ms. Suda’s class at Marvin Elementary School! Her fifth-grade class won a special visit from a dairy farmer as part of the New England Dairy Council’s “Adopt a Cow” program.

Ms. Suda’s class was one of 33 classes in Norwalk Public Schools that signed up to participate in the Adopt a Cow program, and her class was randomly selected for this very special experience.

The dairy farmer from Oakridge Dairy LLC in Ellington, CT visited the class last week. Students learned about the cows, how the farm is run, and got answers to any and all questions about their Adopt a Cow.

The Adopt a Cow program provides educators a fun and engaging year-long virtual educational experience for their classrooms. At the heart of the program is the ability for students to learn about a baby calf and follow her life cycle throughout the school year while paired with a New England dairy farm.

Through photo and video updates, immersive, hands-on learning activities and the free curriculum provided by Discover Dairy, students gain a deeper understanding of dairy farming and how milk is produced before it reaches their table.

After a four year absence, we brought back our Veterans Day Assembly on Nov. 8 with a joyous salute to our community’s local veterans. All our students participated in the assembly that included a presentation showcasing the veterans in their lives and performances of many patriotic songs.

We also celebrated the retirement of Tony Rossi, age 86, who served as a school crossing guard. He retired at the beginning of the school year and has been a fixture in our community for over 20 years. He’s long been an honored guest at the Marvin Veterans Day assemblies.

A volunteer committee of NPS school counselors were hard at work this June, helping to write the district’s Developmental Guidance Curriculum in Workforce Development for Grade 2.

This work will be implemented through monthly classroom lessons co-taught by our school counselors and the classroom teachers in Grades K-2 across the district and focus on the following state standard for Workforce Development: Identifying personal values, personality, abilities and work interests in relation to career options and the world of work.

Scholars will explore and identify their likes and dislikes, their hobbies and favorite leisure activities. They will learn the reasons that people choose a particular job or career, and they will define personality and how it influences a person’s career choices.

Thank you to our Workforce Development School Counselor June 2024 Committee Members:

Ayesha McFadden-Harris from Fox Run Elementary School
Fabiola Estevez-Artiles from the Kendall College and Career Academy
Grace D’Onofrio from Future Ready Programs
Lilliana Murillo from the Center for Global Studies
Poliana Coelho from PTECH-Norwalk
