From imagination to creation! 👾🎨

Kindergarten students at Cranbury Elementary School designed their own unique monsters, then had their drawings brought to life by students in Norwalk High School's Applied Arts class as ceramic sculptures.

On June 4, the Monster Madness Swap gave the young Cranbury artists the chance to meet the high school students who transformed their ideas into reality. The project showcased our Portrait of a Graduate competencies of critical thinking, effective communication and synergistic collaboration.

Registration for NPS Summer Athletic Camps is now open! The fun-filled camps are open to students in grades K-12 and will engage them in a variety of activities. The camps run between June 29 and Aug. 7.

Friends of Brien McMahon High School Orchestra invite our young string players to a fun and focused string camp this summer!

Summer Strings is open to rising 4th grade through 9th grade students (completed 3rd grade through 8th grade). The camp will offer two levels to support all players. Students can expect ensemble playing and collaboration, technique and musicianship development, and guided instruction by Brien McMahon High School music educators.

The camp will run Monday, July 27 through Friday, July 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day at BMHS. The fee to register for the week is $150 and includes daily instruction and informal concert at the end of the week along with a pizza party.

📝🚌 We’re excited to see outstanding student poetry back on the road this summer!

The Words In Transit poetry contest has returned, and six winning poems are now featured on the back of Norwalk Transit buses, with the full poems displayed inside the buses for riders to enjoy. NPS middle school literacy coaches were on hand this week to watch the winning poems being installed and celebrate the students' accomplishments.

✨ Thank you to Dr. Rameck Hunt MD Facp, co-author of the bestselling memoir We Beat The Street: How a Friendship Pact Led to Success, for inspiring our seventh-grade students with your powerful presentation. Drawing from his own journey growing up in Newark, New Jersey, and ultimately becoming a doctor, Dr. Hunt encouraged students to pursue their dreams despite obstacles.

📖 “We Beat the Street” is part of the seventh grade English/language arts curriculum and explores the essential question, “What makes a dream worth pursuing?” Hunt co-authored the book with his childhood friends, Dr. Sampson Davis and Dr. George Jenkins, chronicling their experiences growing up in Newark, New Jersey and the friendship pact they made to overcome obstacles and become doctors.

🎤 During the visit, Dr. Hunt spoke with students about perseverance, goal setting, friendship, and the power of education. Students also had the opportunity to participate in a question-and-answer session based on the novel and Dr. Hunt’s presentation.

Norwalk Public Schools is proud to be a founding partner of the Research & Education Station at Manresa Wilds (R.E.S.A.), a new coastal research and education consortium announced on May 29 with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk, Wesleyan University, and Sacred Heart University.

Through this partnership, NPS students will gain hands-on learning experiences connected to Long Island Sound, including shoreline monitoring, pollinator planting, and visits from landscape architects. R.E.S.A. connects classroom learning to real environmental work in Norwalk.

We thank Manresa Island Corp. for its vision and $500,000 commitment to making this a lasting resource for our students and community. This opportunity helps prepare the next generation of scientists, researchers, and environmental stewards in Norwalk.

🏳️‍🌈 We were proud to join the City of Norwalk, CT and the Triangle Community Center earlier this week for the raising of the Pride Flag at City Hall.

Norwalk Board of Education member Ashley Gulyas spoke as a longtime supporter of Triangle Community Center, helping raise awareness and show support for LGBTQ+ individuals, families, and allies throughout the Norwalk and NPS communities.

👏 Members of the Superintendent’s Student Leadership Council proudly presented their year-long projects at the Board of Education business meeting on June 2!

Throughout the school year, these student leaders worked to address important issues facing their peers, including expanding mental health supports through peer groups at the middle and high school levels and improving postsecondary planning for students as they prepare for their futures. 💚🧠🎓

Their presentations reflected a deep commitment to ensuring younger students have the resources, guidance, and support they need to be both academically successful and socially and emotionally healthy.
