Huron County Veteran Service Office We are here to assist and advocate for veterans with benefits, transportation to VA appointments and temporary financial assistance.

VETERANS AND FAMILIES WE ARE AT YOUR SERVICE

There are many benefits and services available to veterans and their families. However, many are overlooked and underutilized. The Huron County Veteran Service Office and Huron County Veteran Service Commission will assist with establishing benefits at the federal, state, and county/local levels. If you are interested in applying for benefits give our office a call and schedule an appointment with one of our County Veteran Service Officers. In addition, one of our other main functions is to provide transportation to any VA appointment. If you have a need for transportation to your appointment, call our office at 419-668-4150 and schedule a ride at least 48 hours in advance. We have a fleet of 5 very comfortable and spacious vehicles, two of which are new as of the end of 2015. Our office currently provides regular transportation to the following VA Facilities:
Sandusky Community Based Outpatient Clinic
Mansfield Community Based Outpatient Clinic
Lorain Community Based Outpatient Clinic
Parma Community Based Outpatient Clinic
Louis Stokes Medical Center, Cleveland
(Wade Park)
These are our regular stops, however we are not necessarily limited to those destinations. If you have a VA appointment to another facility or an outsourced appointment scheduled by the VA, we can still facilitate your transportation with at least 48 hours notice. We also offer Temporary Financial Assistance to veterans and spouses to help pay for various necessities. If you are interested in Financial Assistance, please call our office and schedule an appointment. Our office provides many more ways to assist The Veteran and their families, if you have any questions or need help please don't hesitate to come see us or give us a call. If we can't help you, we will do our best to put you in contact with the right agency or individual who can.

Meet Your Commissioner πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Jim Hager, Marine Corps League Representative

Jim serves as a Huron County Veteran Service Commissioner, bringing the perspective of someone who has lived the weight of service. He and his wife Vicki have been married 18 years and have four sons. Ryan, Jake (currently serving in the U.S. Air Force), and Kyle. Their son Nick, a United States Marine, passed away from an active duty related injury, and his memory continues to inspire the work Jim does for veterans and their families every day.

🚨 VETERAN SCAM ALERT 🚨
The Department of Veterans Affairs is warning veterans about a fake Facebook post promoting a β€œVeterans & Retired Seniors Grant Program.”
Veterans have been tricked into providing banking and direct-deposit information, allowing scammers to redirect their VA benefits. Some victims have lost thousands of dollars.
Watch for these red flags:
β€’ Unfamiliar veteran or senior β€œgrant programs” on social media
β€’ AI-generated images or fake endorsements from government officials
β€’ Requests for banking, direct-deposit, Social Security, VA-login, or password information
β€’ Pressure to act immediately, click a link, or keep the offer secret
Do not click the post’s link or provide personal information. Verify VA benefit information by typing VA.gov directly into your browser or calling VA at 800-827-1000.
If an expected VA payment is missing or your direct-deposit information was changed without permission, contact VA immediately. You may also contact the Huron County Veteran Service Office at 419-668-4150.
Report suspected VA-related fraud at https://VSAFE.gov or call 833-388-7233.
