West Norwalk Meeting House

Built in 1868, the last public structure in the old town center of West Norwalk. The West Norwalk Meeting House was built in 1868.

Originally The West Norwalk Chapel, it is located on historic West Norwalk Road, halfway between the revolutionary war era Flax Hill Road and New Canaan. It is part of the small town center of West Norwalk, next door to the former general store, across the street from the former Post Office, and down the road from the schoolhouse. Only the Meeting House remains as a public space. The other structures have been converted into private residences.

Huge thank you to Girl Scout Troop 50960 for their service project planting 100+ flower bulbs to beautify the West Norwalk Meeting House! We were pleased to share some Norwalk (and Girl Scout!) history with them as well.

A huge thank you to the Friends of the Norwalk Museum for their generous donation towards the West Norwalk Meeting House! The $35,000 donation allows us to make big progress towards re-opening the building to the public! The refinishing of the original 1868 hardwood floors is amazing! Next up- interior painting and electrical work!

Restoration is underway at the West Norwalk Meeting House! Historically accurate doors and locks have been installed and new paint is coming soon! We look forward to opening the doors to the community in the coming months!

New doors are on their way! The old doors were badly sealed, coming apart at the seams, and not the original for the Meeting House. New doors are being fabricated that will keep the historic character and help us maintain the interior.

We’ve got a new roof! The Friends of the Norwalk Museums, seen here alongside Mayor Rilling and the WNMH Board, have donated to the Meeting House and allowed us to replace the roof before the winter.
