NEW SCAM

New scam warning: Citizens have been reporting that a Sgt. Devin Jackson from the Huron County Sheriff’s Office is telling people they need to bring a specific amount of cash to the Sheriff's Office because there is a warrant out for their arrest for missing Federal Jury Duty. First, the HCSO does not have an employee by that name. Second, we would never call about a warrant or ask any one for payment. We do not take any payments at the Sheriff's Office. Third, we have nothing to do with Federal Jury Duty. If you receive this call, DO NOT give them any personal information!

⚠️ SCAM WARNING – FAKE COURT / TRAFFIC TEXTS ⚠️
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office has received reports from residents about suspicious text messages claiming to be from the “State of Ohio” or a court. These messages often say you owe money for traffic tickets, toll violations, parking fines, or other legal matters.
These messages are fraudulent and are not sent by any legitimate court, or the State of Ohio.
Here are some important reminders:
🚫 Law enforcement and courts do not send citations, warrants, or payment requests through text messages
🚫 Avoid clicking on any links or scanning QR codes included in these messages
🚫 Never share personal, financial, or banking information
🚫 Do not reply to the sender
✅ Delete the message right away
✅ Block the number
✅ Report it as spam through your mobile carrier
Scammers try to make these texts look real by using official-looking language, fake case numbers, and even government-style logos to pressure you into acting quickly.
If you’re ever unsure about a message, contact the appropriate court or agency directly using a trusted phone number — not the one provided in the text.
Please help spread awareness by sharing this information with friends and family.
