The Norwalk Public Library officially dedicated the Ralph C. Bloom History Room on Tuesday, recognizing the local historian’s role in establishing the collection in 1972 and helping preserve Norwalk’s historical records for future generations. Community members, library leaders, and local officials gathered to mark the occasion and celebrate the History Room’s lasting impact on the city.

The event featured remarks from Library Board Chair Moina Noor, Mayor Barbara Smyth, State Senator Bob Duff, State Representative Dominique Johnson, Library Board Member Alex Knopp, and Library Director Sherelle Harris, who joined community members in celebrating the occasion.

Norwalk Public Library’s History Room Dedication in Honor Ralph C. Bloom

Tuesday, June 9, 2026

NORWALK, Conn. Norwalk Public Library, 1 Belden Avenue, will host a history room dedication in honor of longtime municipal historian Ralph C. Bloom on Tuesday, June 9, at 2:00 p.m. in recognition of his many years of service preserving and sharing the city’s rich historical record.

More than five decades after helping establish a home for Norwalk’s history, Mr. Bloom will be honored in the space he helped to create. Mr. Bloom founded the Norwalk Public Library History Room in 1972 with the vision of protecting and sharing the documents, photographs, and records that tell the city’s story for future generations.

Bloom’s contributions to local history span more than 45 years. He began his work as a volunteer coordinator for the Lockwood House Museum from 1968 to 1972. He later served as curator of the Lockwood House Museum and the Norwalk Museum before continuing his dedication to local history as a volunteer in the Norwalk Public Library History Room from 2012 to 2025.

Today, the history room remains an important resource for residents, students, and researchers seeking to explore Norwalk’s heritage.

The public is invited to attend the dedication ceremony.
