Fire Quickly Contained at Arbor Drive Multi-Family Home

Norwalk, CT — The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported fire at an occupied multifamily residence located on Arbor Drive at approximately 1:08 p.m. on Friday, June 19, 2026.

Upon arrival, firefighters found residents attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden hose while other occupants evacuated the building. The fire originated on an exterior porch and had extended up the vinyl siding into the soffit and roof structure.

Firefighters initiated an aggressive exterior and interior attack and quickly brought the fire under control, preventing further extension into the building. The fire was declared under control approximately 27 minutes after the department's arrival.

A total of 37 firefighters responded on the first alarm assignment, including four engine companies, two ladder companies, one rescue company, and command and support staff. Norwalk Hospital Paramedics and Darien EMS Post 53 responded to assist with civilian and firefighter rehabilitation operations. The American Red Cross provided assistance to four displaced occupants. The Norwalk Police Department assisted with traffic and scene control.

No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office.

The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported sailboat fire near Belle Island in Long Island Sound this afternoon at 2:45 p.m.

Marine Unit 238, staffed by members of Engine Company 3, responded to the location and found the stern of the sailboat heavily involved in fire. Before fire suppression began, the occupants of the vessel were safely removed by the Norwalk Police Marine Division.

NFD Marine Unit 238 arrived on scene and initiated fire suppression. Due to the extent of the fire, marine assets from the Noroton Fire Department and Darien Police Department responded to assist.

Once the fire was brought under control using boat-mounted pumps and hose streams, the damaged vessel was towed to Norwalk Cove Marina with the assistance of Norwalk Fire Marine Units 238 and 229, both staffed by trained marine operators. Engine Company 5 responded to the marina to stand by for the vessel's arrival and conduct final extinguishment operations, checking for any remaining hotspots.

Norwalk EMS was requested to stand by ashore as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

Fire operations were completed at 6:37 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal's Division.

Three-Alarm Fire Displaces Multiple Families on Ely Avenue

Norwalk, CT — The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Ely Avenue on Saturday, June 13, at 4:22 p.m.

The building involved was a 2 story multifamily residence. While responding, fire companies observed a significant column of smoke visible from several blocks away. Upon arrival, Car 2 reported heavy fire showing from the side and rear of the structure, with smoke pushing from all floors.

Due to the volume of fire and initial reports of possible trapped occupants, a third alarm was transmitted, bringing additional personnel and resources to the scene.

Engine 5 stretched the initial attack line to the rear of the building, where the main body of fire was located. Conditions required a second hoseline to immediately back up the initial attack crew, while a third hoseline was advanced through the front entrance to support interior operations.

Truck 2 and Rescue Company personnel conducted a primary search while Truck 1 and other companies performed ventilation and coordinated fireground tasks.

During the incident, firefighters encountered challenges with the initial hydrant supplying Engine 5. Engine 4 secured a secondary hydrant and supplemented the water supply to support ongoing fire attack operations.

Prior to the arrival of fire department personnel, a 14-year-old female occupant escaped the building by jumping from a second-floor window. She was transported to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. The victim's mother was assisted out of the building by a neighboring resident using a ladder before the fire department arrived.

Firefighters rescued one dog from the first floor of the residence. A second dog escaped the structure with occupants prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

A total of thirteen occupants were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting those affected.

Mutual aid assistance was provided by neighboring departments. Fire companies from Stamford and New Canaan responded to the scene, while additional companies from Rowayton, Westport, and Fairfield assisted with citywide coverage during the incident.

Norwalk Police closed Ely Avenue to assist with fireground operations, while Norwalk EMS stood by on scene to provide medical care and firefighter rehabilitation. Two firefighters were evaluated for heat-related exhaustion, and one firefighter was transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office.

The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on Heron Road this morning at 7:58 a.m. Engine 3, Engine 2, Engine 4, Truck 2, Truck 1, Rescue 2, and Car 2 responded.

Upon arrival, Engine 3 reported smoke and fire showing from the rear and side of a 2½-story wood-frame residence. Car 2 subsequently declared a working fire, bringing Car 1 and Tac 2 to the scene.

Engine 3 arrived within five minutes of dispatch and quickly stretched a hose line to the second-floor primary bedroom. The crew's aggressive fire attack confined the fire to the room of origin, limiting smoke and water damage throughout the remainder of the home.

With no occupants visible outside and vehicles present in the driveway, members of Truck 2 and Rescue 2 immediately conducted a primary search of the residence. The search confirmed that no occupants were inside.

Truck 1 ventilated the structure and, with assistance from Truck 2, checked for fire extension in the attic and roof areas. Engine 2 established a water supply from a nearby hydrant and stretched a backup hose line to the fire floor. Gas and electrical utilities to the residence were secured as crews completed suppression operations.

Following extinguishment, the structure was thoroughly ventilated and atmospheric monitoring was conducted to ensure it was safe for re-entry.

Norwalk EMS remained on scene to provide firefighter rehabilitation, while the Norwalk Police Department assisted with traffic and scene control. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.

The homeowners were notified of the incident with the assistance of several concerned and helpful neighbors.

Fire Department operations were completed at 9:21 a.m. The incident remains under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal Division.

The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a house fire on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 4:36 a.m.

The fire was located on Harriet Street in a 1.5-story single-family house. The initial call to 911 dispatch reported a house on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters were confronted with heavy fire on the second floor.

The fire was extinguished through an aggressive interior attack by the first-alarm assignment. A second-alarm assignment was held in staging near the scene. The fire was declared under control 19 minutes after firefighters arrived.

The Norwalk Fire Department responded with a total of 39 firefighters to the two-alarm fire, consisting of four engines, two ladder companies, a rescue company, and command and support staff.

Two unrelated occupants residing on the first and second floors were able to self-evacuate as firefighters arrived. The second-floor occupant is being treated at the Bridgeport Hospital Burn Center for injuries. The first-floor resident was uninjured and is receiving aid from the Red Cross. Two firefighters are being treated for minor burn injuries.

Norwalk Hospital Paramedics initially responded with five medical responders. The Westport and New Canaan Fire Departments provided station coverage for Norwalk's fire stations throughout the incident. The Norwalk Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Commercial Building Fire

Time of Incident: 4:01 p.m.

The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a commercial building fire at 251 Ely Avenue this afternoon at 4:01 p.m. Engine 2, Engine 5, Engine 3, Truck 2, Truck 1, Rescue 2, Command and Safety Staff responded.

The initial report was for an outside fire extending to a building. On arrival, Engine 2 reported burning debris in the rear of the building extending to the structure and being driven by windy conditions.

Shortly thereafter a working fire was declared by Incident Command. The fire was contained within approximately 35 minutes by a 1st alarm assignment. Fire damage was mostly limited to the exterior of the building with smoke damage to the interior.

Norwalk EMS was on scene standing by for firefighter rehabilitation and Norwalk Police Department provided
crowd and traffic control. There were no displaced occupants and no injuries to firefighters or civilians reported.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal Division.

Motor Vehicle Accident

The Norwalk Fire Department responded to a serious motor vehicle accident on Interstate 95
southbound between exits 14 and 13 late Friday night, May 8, 2026, at approximately 11:29 p.m.

Initial dispatch reports indicated the crash involved a motorcycle and SUV, with possible entrapment.
Upon arrival, rescue personnel located a motorcycle and its operator pinned beneath an SUV.

Firefighters utilized rapid-deploy lifting equipment and shoring techniques to stabilize and raise the vehicle, allowing crews to extricate the trapped motorcyclist.

Fire department personnel transferred primary patient care to Norwalk Hospital EMS and continued assisting with treatment while en route to Norwalk Hospital.

The rescue operation was carried out by Norwalk Fire Department Rescue 2, Engine 2, Tac 1, command staff personnel, and the Darien Fire Department. The condition of the patient has not been released at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.

House Fire

The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a house fire on Fullmar Lane this morning at 11:56 AM with a first alarm assignment consisting of 3 Engine Companies, 2 Truck Companies, 1 Rescue Company, Command Staff, and Safety personnel.

The initial report indicated a fire on the rear deck. Truck 1 and Engine 1 arrived on scene and encountered a well-involved structure fire with flames present on the first and second floors and rapidly extending to multiple attic spaces of the split-level house.

Shortly thereafter, the remaining assignment arrived, and Command upgraded the incident to a second alarm assignment, followed by a third alarm, bringing all remaining City of Norwalk Fire Department resources to the scene. The fire was extinguished and brought under control in approximately one hour.

There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians. Sadly, one dog was found by firefighters deceased within the fire area. Three occupants were displaced by the fire and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross. The incident is currently under investigation by the Norwalk Fire Marshal Division.

During the fire, the City of Norwalk fire stations were covered by mutual aid from the Rowayton, New Canaan, Westport, and Stamford Fire Departments.

The City of Norwalk Fire Department responded to a reported lawn mower on fire up against a garage on Sherwood St. at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find a riding lawnmower fully engulfed in
flames next to a detached single-car garage. The fire had extended to the garage’s exterior and was extending into the soffits and up to the peak. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire, preventing it from spreading into the interior.

The Norwalk Fire Marshal Division is investigating the cause of the fire.
