Once again, it's that time of the year!

Members of the Norwalk Fire Marshal Division assisted and supervised the "live burn" portion of the Forensics: Arson Investigation course offered to Brien McMahon High School seniors.

Students were divided into teams and will be finishing their final exam by investigating another team's fire event.

Such a fun program for all. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Dayton and Mr. Jeon for including us in the final stages of this course.

Read Across America! 🇺🇸👭👫🏿🇺🇸

📖 Earlier this week, members of the Norwalk Fire Marshal Division presented "Gizmo's Pawesome Guide to Mental Health" to a very lively class of second grade students at Elementary School.

📖 Young readers were instructed on the different ways to handle their feelings when they are "mad, sad, or worried".

📖 Students were very engaged, asked very good questions, and offered very thoughtful and appropriate answers to some tough questions for this age.

Deputy Fire Marshal Jack Kelly spent 2 days with seniors at Brien McMahon High School observing the final portion of their Forensics: Arson Investigation track for the first semester.

Students formed groups and constructed their structures out of popsicle sticks and glue, then used "Fire-Starter" compressed fuel cubes to ignite the fire.

Learning objectives of these "live burns":
🚒 Understanding fire behavior
🚒 How to identify the stages of the fire based on the characteristics of the smoke
🚒 Recognition of burn patterns and lines of demarcation.

Students were taught the following components of Fire Science:
🚒 The Fire Tetrahedron
🚒 The definition of Pyrolysis
🚒 First-hand witnessing of the self-sustaining chemical reaction known as “fire”.

3 classes with over 75 students participated in these fun, interactive sessions.

The Norwalk Police Department Detective Bureau is requesting the public’s help in locating a missing person.

Kenneth Keen, a 29-year-old male, was reported missing to the Norwalk Police Department on Sunday, November 16, 2025. He was last seen on Thursday November 13, 2025, after he left his residence in South Norwalk. There is currently no available clothing description. Kenneth weighs approximately 200 pounds, is 6’3” tall with green eyes and dreadlocks. A Silver Alert has been issued.
