The Governor has activated the state’s Extreme Hot Weather Protocol effective at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026, and continuing until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026.

During this period, temperatures are expected to exceed 90 degrees each day, meeting the National Weather Service (NWS) definition of a heat wave, with the heat index reaching or exceeding 100 degrees at times. Heat advisories have been issued by NWS for most of the state. Conditions are expected to be the most severe around the inland areas.

Cooling centers at the Library branches and the Norwalk Police Department are open and available.

We encourage residents to stay indoors, stay hyrdrated, check on neighbors, and monitor official announcements. Stay safe!

High temperatures are in the forecast for Norwalk. When the heat climbs, heat exhaustion and heat stroke can hit quickly.

Protect yourself, your family, and your pets by following these safety steps:
👚 Dress light: Stick to loose, lightweight, and light colored clothing to help your body stay cool.

💧 Hydrate consistently: Drink water throughout the day. It is best to avoid caffeine, alcohol, and sugary drinks, as they can dehydrate you faster.

💨 Stay cool inside: Limit outdoor time for you and your pets, especially during the hottest parts of the day. If you don't have air conditioning at home, try spending time in public, air conditioned spaces.
