Bicycles have all of the same rights and responsibilities that motorists do. Cyclists are also expected to follow all of the same traffic laws as motorists.

We would like to reward children with a “Safety Citation” when officers on patrol observe a child wearing safety equipment.

A secured, approved fitted helmet shall be worn by persons 16 years of age and under who are operating or being carried as a passenger on a bicycle, in-line skates, a skate board, a scooter or other manually-propelled wheeled vehicle.

We thank you, Chief Reardon, for your service to our community and we wish you a long, happy, healthy, well-deserved retirement. Thank you for the lasting contributions and sacrifices that you and your family made throughout your long career. We are forever grateful!

Please expect traffic delays on Washington St (Rte.53) Norwell on Friday, July 31st from 11am to 1:30pm as we celebrate Chief Andrew Reardon’s retirement after 40 years of service. Visitors are required to stay inside their vehicles. You will be directed to enter the north side of the parking lot (right side of public safety building) to rear parking lot and drive-thru garage bays. Please keep conversations to a minimum to help prevent a backup on Rte.53. Officers will be assisting with traffic entering and exiting the station.

End of Watch: July 15, 2018

On this day we remember Sergeant Micheal C. Chesna, a 6 year veteran of the Weymouth Police Department who was shot and killed after responding to reports of an erratic operator near South Shore Hospital. Upon arrival, he observed the vehicle had crashed and the driver was vandalizing a home nearby. Sergeant Chesna was struck in the head with a large rock, disarmed and fatally shot by the suspect who also fatally shot Vera Adams in her home. The suspect was subsequently arrested by responding officers and taken into custody. The suspect has since been charged with two counts of homicide. Sergeant Chesna was 42 years old.

Sergeant Chesna was a U.S. Army Veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife and two children. Sergeant Michael C. Chesna, you are not forgotten.

Information and situation report from Norwell Emergency Management - July 9, 2020:

The Coronavirus situation in town remains stable.

We ask that you continue to wear your mask and practice social distancing.

From the Norwell Water Department:

In response to damaged pumping equipment during recent electrical storms, increased water demand, and in response to receding groundwater levels, the Norwell Water Department will begin enforcing Tier 3 Water Restrictions effective immediately until further notice.

Tier 3 Water Restrictions prohibit the use of automated irrigation systems, including sprinklers, and other unattended watering devices.

The use of hand-held hoses is allowed ONLY between the hours of (5PM-9AM).

Watering pots are allowed at any time.

Failure to comply with these restrictions may result in fines.

The Water Department greatly appreciates your cooperation

The National Weather Service is tracking a potentially powerful storm that may impact us Friday and throughout the weekend.

Information and situation report from Norwell Emergency Management - Tuesday, July 7, 2020:

The Coronavirus situation remains stable here in Town.

From the Board of Health:

Starting Wednesday, July 8th, the Recycling Center will go back to its regular schedule.
Wednesdays Noon to 6pm
Saturdays 9am to 3pm

The Recycle Center will be closed Saturday, July 25th, due to Annual/Special Town Meeting.

From the Norwell Council on Aging:

We’ve heard from several residents that they are receiving calls claiming to be from Medicare. Medicare WILL NOT call you, this is a scam. Hang up and do not give out personal information over the phone.

Limited transportation services for medical appointments and grocery shopping only, will begin on July 20. We will accept ride reservations beginning on July 8th for medical appointments. Anyone who has used Council on Aging transportation services in the past year will receive a letter outlining the new transportation policies and restrictions. For more information, please call the senior center at 781-659-7878.

Please mark your calendar that Saturday, July 25th at 10 am is our Annual Town Meeting.
Please remember to wear face coverings when out and about. Social distancing remains an important issue, as we can see in other parts of the country.

The Safety Citation program is back!

Kids, we will be looking for you. That’s right, In July and August officers on patrol will be looking for positive/safe behavior and may issue you a Safety Citation redeemable for a small ice cream or small slush at Norwell Package & General Store!!! A parent must be present to redeem.

Types of positive/safe behavior:
Wearing a helmet on a bike, scooter etc. ✅
Looking both ways when crossing a street ✅
Safety gear when playing sports ✅
Helping parents with chores ✅
Other positive or safe behavior ✅

The COVID-19 situation remains stable in town.

Norwell Town Hall will be open on Monday, 6/22. If you come by to visit, you must wear a mask and maintain social distance. Please keep in mind, there is to be only one visitor in an office at a time.

Reminder that the Town Meeting has been scheduled for July 7th.

From our Friends at the Council on Aging:

NEED A MASK? WE’VE GOT YOU COVERED!
If you are a Norwell resident or caregiver and need a mask, we have a supply of handmade masks available on a first come, first serve basis. Please call the center at 781-659-7878 for more information.

We also have a very limited supply of 2 ounce spray bottles of liquid hand sanitizer. These are 80% alcohol solutions. They are available on a first come, first serve basis to Norwell residents age 60 and older. Limit one per household and we ask that you only take one if you have a serious medical or health related need.

Wear a mask, Social Distance, and enjoy the summer weather!

The Norwell High School Class of 2020 Graduation Parade is scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday, June 6th, 2020 @ 2PM). The parade will start at the high school and proceed through town on a prearranged route. Approximately 140 cars will be participating in the parade which is being lead by our own School Resource Officer Rick Phelps. Norwell Officers will be assisting vehicles cross at designated intersections throughout the parade route.
