Norwich Public Schools on the Rise!

We are proud to share that Norwich Public Schools’ Accountability Index increased by 5.1 points. Two of our schools were also recognized as Schools of Distinction: Veterans Memorial Elementary School for High Growth in English Language Arts among High Needs Students (Top 10% of schools in CT for this indicator), and Moriarty Elementary School for High Growth in Mathematics among High Needs Students (Top 10% of schools in CT for this indicator).

This is the greatest single-year improvement for Norwich Public Schools in the Accountability Index since the first ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act) system results began in 2017-18.

Almost all schools in Norwich Public Schools improved on their Accountability Index in 2024-25.

For Kelly Middle School and Teachers’ Memorial Middle School, this is the 2nd consecutive year of improvement in the Accountability Index.

The academic growth for Math High Needs was our most significant gain, with an 8.4% increase.

This progress reflects the Power of Together, the dedication of our teachers, staff, students, and families. Through teacher-led curriculum improvements, expanded in-district supports like our Rose City School and Resilience Program, and a shared belief in our students’ potential, Norwich continues to move forward, stronger than ever.

The Norwich Public Schools Education Foundation is proud to announce that Kathy Iovino and Yelitza Brooks have joined the Foundation's Board of Directors. Kathy and Yelitza have committed their professional careers in support of quality education and in service to the youth of the greater Norwich community. The NPS Education Foundation is thrilled that it will benefit from their stewardship!

Kathy's career in education began as a School Social Worker
in the Plainfield Public Schools and then in Griswold Public Schools until her retirement in 2017. In addition to her role as
School Social Worker, Kathy also served as the School Readiness Coordinator, Early Childhood Coordinator and Early Childhood Special Education Facilitator.

Yelitza has been working in service to students and their families for ten years. She helps students and their families find the resources they require to support each student's educational journey. Yelitza's favorite aspect of her job is being a part of an amazing Norwich community.

The NPS Education Foundation recently awarded over $2,500 in grants to Norwich Public Schools classrooms supporting STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. Highlights include a Multicultural Celebration designed to foster cultural awareness, inclusivity, and global citizenship at Uncas Elementary. A Play-Based Learning Project fostering creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking at Samuel Huntington Elementary. A Book Club for Grade 3 Readers at Uncas Elementary. Positive Traits in Grade Eight Project to support students' respect for one another, responsibility, and mindfulness at Kelly STEAM Magnet Middle School. Lively Letters providing Reading Intervention Instructional Materials at Stanton Elementary School and Moriarty Environmental Sciences Magnet School. Accessible Learning Materials for Individualized Support at Stanton Elementary School. News2You, a Reading Comprehension and Writing Program at Mahan Elementary School & Family Resource Center. Sight Word and Writing Fluency for Resource Students Stanton Elementary School.

The NPS Education Foundation is pleased to announce grant opportunities for Norwich Public Schools Classrooms in support of student achievement. The NPS Education Foundation is offering up to $2,500 total in its Winter 2025 Grant Program:

School - Community Grants:
- up to $1,250 total for one or more School-Community Grants (grants that support NPS student achievement and Norwich community engagement);

Mini-Grants:
- up to $1,250 total for one or more Mini-Grants of $250 (grants that support NPS student achievement; Two NPS staff can apply jointly on one application for $500, etc.).

The NPS Education Foundation has awarded over $131,000 to Norwich Public Schools classrooms in support of NPS student achievement since 2011.

NPS Education Foundation extends a huge THANK YOU to ALL those who made the 2025 Staff Follies a SUCCESS! Thank you to all NPS Staff for your awesome performances including: Kelly STEAM Magnet Middle School, Stanton Elementary School, Teachers’ Memorial Global Studies Magnet Middle School, Veterans Elementary School, and Wequonnoc Arts & Technology Magnet School!
Many other administrators and staff from Norwich Public Schools volunteered their time and talents to the Follies - Thank You!

The Norwich Public Schools Staff Follies presented by the NPS Education Foundation is always a great night of family-friendly ENTERTAINMENT! It also acts as a fundraiser for NPS Education Foundation which supports our mission of supporting STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT in each and every Norwich Public Schools student! - 'Sensory Room' at Wequonnoc Arts & Technology Magnet School;
- 'Speech & Language Story Centers' at both Kelly STEAM Magnet Middle School and Teachers’ Memorial Global Studies Magnet Middle School;
- 'Beginner Guitar' at Wequonnoc Arts & Technology Magnet School;
- 'Community Access' at Norwich Transition Academy where students received specialized instruction regarding transition to Employment; Community; Independent Living Skills, and Post Secondary Education;
- 'Book Clubs' at Uncas Elementary;
- 'Garden Bed and Playground Equipment for Pre-K' at Samuel Huntington Elementary;
- 'News2You', a Current Events and Writing skills program at Mahan Elementary School & Family Resource Center;

Great job Kelly STEAM Magnet Middle School Drumline! You represented Norwich Public Schools proudly at the 2024 The City of Norwich, CT Memorial Day Parade! Thank you to State Representative Derell Wilson for his support of this educational program as well as an after-school STEM program, and an internet streaming and production program, all being taught at Norwich Public Schools. These Materials will help hundreds of Norwich Public Schools students help improve student achievement in the areas of reading, language arts, and math.
