Last week, 75+ KUA students spent a few hours on Earth Day pulling buckthorn on the Montshire Museum of Science campus alongside staff from Montshire and UVTA. They made a huge impact! They listened, they worked hard, and they made a real dent in removing buckthorn that’s been crowding out native plants on the Montshire grounds.
It wasn’t a glamorous job. Buckthorn doesn’t pull easy and it doesn’t look impressive when it’s done. But it’s necessary, and having such an enthusiastic group of students helped make it happen!
This kind of project with a younger crew isn’t new for UVTA. Through our High School Trail Corps and Trail Stewards programs, we work with young people across the Upper Valley: building and maintaining trails, developing real skills, and developing a real relationship with the land they’re growing up on. The KUA crew fit right into that spirit, even as a one-time collaboration.
Big thanks to , , and to the KUA students!
