Upper Valley Trails Alliance

Upper Valley Trails Alliance Promoting Trails, Connecting Communities! www.uvtrails.org UVTA's methodology includes Stewardship, Outreach, and Education.

The Upper Valley Trails Alliance is a non-profit in the Upper Valley Region that:
*connects people and places through a regional trail network
*leads a coalition of local trail groups and advocates, and
*promotes active lifestyles through trail use in all seasons. There is no other entity filling the need to coordinate and maximize the efforts of the various trail-related organiza

tions throughout the area. Our projects and programs make simultaneous use of these approaches. Visit the About -> History/Mission & Vision and other pages of our website to learn how!

UVTA recently installed 50 new check steps at River Trail in Hanover.

We replaced the older rotting steps with new ones to make this steep section safer and more accessible for trail users. Plus, they'll reduce erosion and increase sustainability for years to come.

We hope you (and your dogs) have fun out there!

Randy, Ethan, Stevie, and Jack were busy at the Montshire Museum of Science this week continuing work on the trails in the Healing Forest!

They moved tons of stone, put down the first layer of new trail surface, repaired lookout points, and cleared obstacles.

Once this project is finished, more of the trails and outdoor exhibits will be available to more visitors, including visitors using wheelchairs.

TRAIL TUESDAYS ARE BACK! 🍻

Join us every Tuesday in June from 5-7 PM at The Norwich Inn!

We'll be enjoying apps, drinks, and sharing enthusiasm for local trails. Whether you're a seasoned hiker, trail-curious, or just want to unwind after work for a great cause, we hope to see you on Tuesdays in June!

The Norwich Inn has brewed another batch of "There And Back Again" ale, crafted specially for UVTA, and are generously donating a portion of the proceeds.

Check out the full schedule on our calendar: https://www.uvtrails.org/programs-events/alliance-calendar/

Thank you to the volunteers from Hypertherm Associates that recently joined us for a day of work on the Montshire Museum of Science's Outdoor Discovery Trails. Volunteers cleaned and cleared trails to get them ready for the season and pulled a lot of invasive buckthorn. Thank you!

We began upgrading the steps at Hanover's River Trail last week.

We are building 50+ new wooden check-steps near the Maple Street entrance to the trail. We started by removing the older, rotting steps, and we have begun to build new steps to make this steep section of the trail safer and more accessible for trail users.

Using the new stairs will help reduce erosion and increase sustainability for many years to come!

We're putting putting the finishing touches on plans for a wheelchair accessible trail at Randolph Town Recreation Center. This project will dramatically expand access to this vital community resource and we can't wait to get started in a few weeks!

Last week, 75+ KUA students spent a few hours on Earth Day pulling buckthorn on the Montshire Museum of Science campus alongside staff from Montshire and UVTA. They made a huge impact! They listened, they worked hard, and they made a real dent in removing buckthorn that’s been crowding out native plants on the Montshire grounds.

It wasn’t a glamorous job. Buckthorn doesn’t pull easy and it doesn’t look impressive when it’s done. But it’s necessary, and having such an enthusiastic group of students helped make it happen!

This kind of project with a younger crew isn’t new for UVTA. Through our High School Trail Corps and Trail Stewards programs, we work with young people across the Upper Valley: building and maintaining trails, developing real skills, and developing a real relationship with the land they’re growing up on. The KUA crew fit right into that spirit, even as a one-time collaboration.

Big thanks to , , and to the KUA students!
