The city of Norwich was incorporated in 1784, one of the first five Connecticut cities. The abundant waterpower available on the Yantic and Shetucket rivers provided the motive power for textile factories, which by the mid-1800s dominated the local economy. Norwich is a thriving city with a stable population, wide range of municipal services, a modern industrial park, its own utility company, and a positive outlook for residential and business growth.

ROAD CLOSURE

Due to utility work for the Greeneville Elementary School Construction Project, Boswell Avenue will be closed to all traffic other than local traffic, from the Hickory Street intersection to the Mohegan Park Road intersection on June 18th, 2026, and June 19th, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Traffic will be detoured through Mohegan Park Road and North Street during this time.

Beginning Monday June 22nd, the entire Stanton Elementary School property will be an active construction area, and only accessible to those who are affiliated with the construction. Gates will be installed at the entrance and exit from New London Turnpike. The tennis court, basketball court, and handball wall will not be available for use.

The City of Norwich, in collaboration with its contractor, Charles Pasteryak, Jr. Inc., will be conducting milling and paving operations beginning Wednesday June 17 through Friday June 26.

Work will occur on the following roadways:
Garden St
Mulberry St
Carter Ave
Stanton Ave
