The city of Norwich was incorporated in 1784, one of the first five Connecticut cities. The abundant waterpower available on the Yantic and Shetucket rivers provided the motive power for textile factories, which by the mid-1800s dominated the local economy. Norwich is a thriving city with a stable population, wide range of municipal services, a modern industrial park, its own utility company, and a positive outlook for residential and business growth.

Fall Brush Pickup

- This is for brush only, no leaves (leaf pickup is in November)

The city will only pick up reasonable amounts of brush that are neatly stacked at the curbside. A reasonable amount of brush is that which would fit in the bed of a standard pickup truck.

To avoid excessive wear and tear on Public Works equipment, brush cuttings must be no larger than four inches in diameter. Small piles of twigs left on the ground or in buckets will not be picked up due to time constraints.

Brush may be brought to the Rogers Road Transfer Station for a fee during normal operating hours. Note: Branch cuttings (4 Foot Length Maximum and 4 Inch Diameter Maximum), Lawn Debris, Leaves, Twigs and Scrap Metal are accepted at the Transfer Station.

September 14 - Greeneville, Mohegan Park, Central, East Great Plain, Norwichtown (including Scotland Road.)

September 21 - Taftville, Occum, Plain Hill, Thamesville, West Side, Laurel Hill, East Side

NOTICE: BULK PICKUPS
Bulk Pickups will take place during the first week of August (Aug. 3-7).
Please do not place your bulk piles out until the weekend prior to the pickup window (Aug. 1-2) at the earliest!
You MUST call Casella at 860-423-4527 to be added to the list. The last day to call will be July 31st and there is a limited number of addresses per pickup window, so please do not delay if you intend to use one of your pickups during the August week.
The next bulk pickup week will be the week of November 2-6.

Please be advised that on Tuesday, 7/14 7am-4pm NPU utilities along with O&G will be doing work at the main entrance of 20 Lawler Lane - John Moriarty Elementary School. At times during Tuesday, 7/14 Lawler Lane may be down to a single road with flaggers directing local traffic.

ROAD CLOSURE
Due to utility work for the Greeneville Elementary School Construction Project, Boswell Avenue will be closed to all traffic other than local traffic, from the Hickory Street intersection to the Mohegan Park Road intersection on Tuesday, July 14th, 2026 from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Traffic will be detoured through Mohegan Park Road and North Street during this time.
