A friendly reminder that the Connecticut Fire Academy is presenting a free Physical Fitness Preparation program on January 4th. This program is designed to provide an understanding of the physical demands of the Recruit Program. It is a great opportunity to get a glimpse of the physical expectations of the program.

You do not have to have a job offer or have been hired by a Fire Department to participate. If you have tested with Norwich or elsewhere, this a great chance to gain some insight on what to expect should you be selected to attend the Recruit Program.

Smoke alarms: make them work for you! This year's Fire Prevention campaign focuses on the importance of smoke alarms. Three takeaways: Install, Test, Replace. Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside of sleeping areas, and on each level of your home. Test smoke alarms at least once a month. Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10-years old.

Congressman Joe Courtney visited us at Fire Headquarters this afternoon to discuss the recent grant award we received. As always, we are thankful for the support of our local and state legislators, but especially appreciative of Congressman Courtney for the work he has done over the years to support First Responders, as well his efforts on behalf of military members and their families in our region. Thank you, Sir. It was an honor to visit with you today.

An opportunity from our community partners to share your voice to help shape the services provided within our community.

The Eastern CT Health Collaborative (ECHC) and the Health Improvement Collaborative (HIC) partners are working together with Hartford HealthCare and Yale New Haven hospitals to collect local data to respond to health-related needs within our community.

The goal of this survey is to help partners in both of our collaboratives improve programs and services in our area and determine where to focus attention and resources within our community.

We hope you will take 5 minutes to complete this survey to help us better serve you! All responses are completely anonymous and confidential. Thank you!

We send our condolences out to the Connecticut State Police who tragically lost one of their own today.

This is another reminder of the dangers our brothers and sisters in blue face everyday. Always give your loved ones a hug before they leave for work.
