Our Story
In 1985, Jim Herr and Farm Manager Dennis Byrne began operations at the Herr Angus Farms. The main purpose of the farm was to utilize the food by-products from the Herr’s Potato Chip Plant. Over the next few years, Herr’s acquired over 1,000 acres of land to house and feed 150 Angus cows and 600 steers. Pasture, hay, corn, soybeans and wheat are produced on the land. By-products from the production of potato, chips, popcorn, pretzels and corn chips are all included in the cattle diets. Conservation, re-use and recycling of snack food ingredients remain a high priority to this day.
