Nowata County Commissioners have extended the current burn ban until September 14. So the same rules still apply that the last burn ban had.

As Nowata Public Schools will be starting back tomorrow please be careful of all the kids walking to and from school. If you come up on a bus and there red lights are flashing and the stop sign is activated it is not a suggestion to stop. It is a state law you have to stop for the safety of the children. So please be careful and do not pass a bus that is loading or unloading the kids. We hope the kids have a great and safe school year.

🚒 A New, Uniform Look for Nowata Fire! 🚒

You may start noticing a change in the design of Nowata Fire Department vehicles and apparatus. We are working to bring a consistent, uniform appearance across our entire fleet.

Previously, nearly every vehicle had a different style of lettering and decals. Moving forward, our apparatus will follow a more standardized design. Not only does this provide a cleaner, more professional appearance, but it also makes our vehicles easier to quickly identify while operating on emergency scenes.

Our Chevrolet pickup recently underwent several upgrades, including:

New department graphics
Reflective rear chevrons for increased visibility and safety
A bed topper to provide secure, weather-protected storage for equipment

One of the best parts of these improvements is that the upgrades on this truck were acquired through donations, with no cost to the City of Nowata or its taxpayers.

We take pride in our department, our equipment, and the community we serve. These improvements are another step toward building a recognizable, and safety-focused fleet for Nowata Fire.

The Nowata Fire Department has received a significant upgrade to its firefighter safety equipment without the expense normally associated with replacing the department’s aging breathing apparatus.

Through his relationships developed within the fire service, Nowata Fire Chief Brandon Jarvis reached out to Assistant Chief Charlie Hoage of the Livingston Manor Fire Department in New York. That connection resulted in the donation of 24 MSA self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) packs and masks to the Nowata Fire Department.

The donation is estimated to have saved the City of Nowata more than $50,000 compared with the cost of purchasing replacement equipment.

SCBAs are among the most critical pieces of personal protective equipment used by firefighters, providing breathable air while personnel operate inside burning structures and other hazardous or oxygen-deficient environments.

Today we had the opportunity to spend some time with the amazing kids at the Boys & Girls Club.

Thank you to the Boys & Girls Club for inviting the Nowata Fire Department and Nowata EMS to come out and show the kids our fire trucks and ambulance. We always enjoy sharing what we do and giving our community’s youth a chance to explore the equipment up close.

The highlight of the day? Cooling everyone off with a shower from the deck gun! Seeing all the smiles, laughter, and excitement made it a great day for everyone involved.

Thank you again for having us—we look forward to seeing you all again soon! 🚒 💦 🚑

⚠️ HEAT ALERT – NOWATA AREA ⚠️

The Nowata Fire Department is urging everyone to take extra precautions as dangerously hot temperatures are expected today.

🌡️ Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly. Please remember to:

* 💧 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
* 🏠 Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the afternoon.
* 🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning if working outside.
* 👶👴 Check on children, elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be vulnerable to the heat.
* 🚗 Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.
* 🐾 Ensure pets have access to fresh water and a cool, shaded area.

Watch for signs of heat exhaustion such as heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, weakness, or muscle cramps. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or stops sweating while in the heat, call 911 immediately—these may be signs of heat stroke, a life-threatening emergency.

Let’s all do our part to stay safe and look out for one another during today’s extreme heat.

Stay cool. Stay hydrated. Stay safe.
