As we near the Memorial Day Weekend, we wanted to share the full impact interview that Impaired Driving director, Anthony William Tucker, captured with Nowata's own, Amy Yirsa.

Amy, as some of you might know, lost her daughter, Jeanann, in a single car accident that involved an impaired teenage driver behind the wheel.

We implore you to adhere to Amy's collective call to have the difficult conversations with both yourself and your children to have a plan for impaired moments, including when you or your child are at risk of riding with someone who is impaired.

Life is more precious than a holiday celebration that went too far or your perceived fears of the potential repercussions that could happen if you ask someone for help in your impaired moment.

We answer the many calls that come to our station to provide assistance on car accidents all too often. Take a moment out of your day, watch Amy's message, and make a plan for impaired moments.

On episode 2 of the Impaired Driving Behind the Scenes series, we feature Nowata Public Schools student-athlete, Adrian O'Dell.

From the Friday Night Lights representing our beloved Nowata Ironmen to playing the heartbreaking role of a dead on arrival (DOA) victim in the short film, Impaired Driving, Adrian O'Dell plays a meaningful role in this film and in the very fabric of our hometown community.

On the episode, Adrian discusses the impact of having his peers witness him being zipped up in a body bag, his out of body experience of watching his family receive his death notice from a Nowata Police Department officer, and the harrowing experience of having his mock obituary read to the entire student body at Nowata High School.

Adrian's family also served a vital role in the short film as they acted out the heart-wrenching scenes of receiving his death notice and planning his funeral services.

A big thank you goes out to Adrian and his family!

Today we join Impaired Driving's director, Anthony William Tucker, and launch a behind the scenes video series detailing the project's impact on the students, first responders, local actors, and educators who participated in the project.

Our debut behind the scenes interview is with Nowata Public Schools student, Caleb Parrish, who played the DUI driver in the project. Caleb had the extremely tough task of playing the villain and going through the emotional journey from fatal crash scene to the Nowata County court house for processing and arraignment.

A big thank you to Caleb for taking on this difficult role and making a positive impact on his peers by elevating the importance to plan for impaired moments.

We recently completed a two-day mock accident exercise at Nowata High School as part of our facilitation of the Every 15 Minutes program for our community.

To accompany the in-person activities of this year's program, our team wanted to create a long-term educational impact tool that could be used year round throughout our community and across American hometown communities just like ours.

So, we commissioned a short film to be directed and produced by Anthony William Tucker and his team at Tucker Digital. The end result of the collaboration is this new short film, Impaired Driving. The film provides a realistic perspective to the scenes and emotions of those impacted by the actions of the impaired driver, including the driver themselves.

Furthermore, the short film provides viewers the heart pounding perspective of the unimaginable moments for the families who deal with the grief and next steps after losing a loved one.

The short film and the associated "plan for impaired moments" challenge seeks to assist educators and parents in navigating the difficult conversation about impaired driving consequences with the youth in their lives.

The facilitation of the two-day mock accident exercise and the production of this short film would not have been possible without our fellow first responders at partner agencies in the area, Nowata Public Schools, the team at the Nowata County Courthouse, Benjamin Funeral Services, Ascension St. John Nowata, and the countless volunteers and actors who stepped up to serve the project.

Please visit https://impaireddriver.org to learn more about the short film, the "plan for impaired moments" challenge, and how to connect with the director behind the short film.
