Nowthen Residents! It’s Nowthen Fire Friday! 🔥
This past Tuesday, NFD celebrated the graduation of four of our recruits from the Anoka County Fire Training Academy. These four have put in endless hours of studying, training, and preparing to serve our community to the best of their ability. Congratulations to Daniel Bixby, Avery Mortenson, Brittani Nelson, and Luke Oberleitner! Thank you for your commitment to keeping Nowthen and our surrounding communities safe!

Heads up, drivers! Starting June 18th (weather permitting), the County Baugh St. Project is moving into another stage of construction, and will have a new segment of the roadway closed with the same detour route. Baugh St. will be closed from just South of 188th Ave to just North of 194th Lane. Please see the map below for detour information.

Nowthen Residents! It’s Nowthen Fire Friday! 🔥
As the summer heat kicks into gear, we know everyone is eager to head to the lakes to cool off. This past Wednesday, NFD completed surface water rescue training with the rescue boat at Twin Lakes Park. Our crew is highly trained and ready to respond if you need them, but they would much rather everyone practice safe swimming so their skills aren't necessary. Keep these essential water safety tips in mind this summer!
1. Never swim alone; always use the buddy system, no matter your age or how strong a swimmer you are.
2. When kids are in or near the water, appoint a responsible adult to keep their eyes on the lake at all times, without distractions.
3. If you're swimming, boating, or doing other open water recreational activities, make sure to use a Coast Guard-approved life jacket.

We wish you all a safe and fun summer at the lake!

Good news! The DNR has lifted the burning restriction for Anoka County! You can get your permit instantly by filling out the application on our website here- https://www.cityofnowthen.gov/burnpermitapplication
or by coming into the City Offices. While burning is currently allowed, conditions can change quickly. Please continue to check the MN DNR website (linked in comments) for the latest updates in case restrictions are put back in place. Your permit is only valid if no restrictions are active. Let's enjoy the ability to clean up our yards responsibly and safely!

In observance of Memorial Day, the Nowthen City Offices will be closed on Monday, May 25th. On this day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Their courage and devotion will never be forgotten. We encourage all residents to take a moment to reflect on the meaning of this important holiday. City Offices will reopen with regular hours on Tuesday, May 26th. We wish everyone a safe and happy weekend.
