The Nunda Police Department will participate in the High Visibility Engagement Campaign (HVEC) from November 27th through December 1st, 2024, coinciding with the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. With millions of Americans traveling during this period—over 55 million people expected to hit the roads—this initiative aims to enhance safety in the Town and Village of Nunda by addressing Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. The goal is to reduce impaired driving and prevent crashes that could lead to serious injury or death. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Thanksgiving is one of the deadliest times of the year for impaired driving incidents, with over 400 fatalities annually during the holiday period. The Nunda Police Department urges all motorists to drive responsibly and have a plan in place for a safe trip home.

The HVEC Campaign focuses on:

🔘 Prevention and Education: Raising awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence and encouraging designated drivers.
🔘 Incapacitation: Actively preventing intoxicated individuals from getting behind the wheel.
🔘 Reform: Offering resources for treatment to reduce the likelihood of future offenses.
🔘 Deterrence: Utilizing high-visibility enforcement to deter unsafe driving behavior through the fear of legal consequences.
