🍎 New teachers, meet NPS!

Our leadership team spent four days welcoming and onboarding our newest educators the NPS way: TOGETHER.

Through a comprehensive, interactive workshop, teachers, administrators and Superintendent Dr. LRG dove into instruction, curriculum, the MTSS structure, Equity, Family & Community Engagement, district departments and the community and values that make Nyack unique.

We’ve loved brainstorming, sharing what makes NPS special and mapping out the plan for 2026–27. Now, we’re ready to kick off a great year of and —and, of course, BELONGING!

🎒 REDHAWKS got READY!

What a way to kick off the school year! Our 2nd Annual RedHawk ReadyFest was an afternoon packed with plenty of RedHawk spirit. Students and families came out to play, dance, eat, explore catch up with friends and enjoy the afternoon together. It was the perfect chance to celebrate the start of a new school year and all the people who make Nyack special.

A big thank you to our amazing NPS staff and community partners who helped make this cost-free celebration possible. From free backpacks and supplies to food, activities, haircuts, resources, music and more, you helped make sure our families had what they needed to start the year ready to go!

This is what happens when the community shows up for NPS.

🎯 SIGHTS SET ON A GREAT YEAR AT NHS!

Our high schoolers were ready to get the year started and make their mark on 2026–27. We checked in with our RedHawks during lunch, where students were getting to know their new principal, Dr. Crystal Chandler, checking in with the GLC about summer reading, catching up with friends and of course, spending time in some of their favorite places around the school. New year. New possibilities. New memories waiting to happen.

From our littlest learners to our seniors everyone's stepping into the year ready to Be Real. Be Bold. BELONG.

🔓 LOCKERS. SCHEDULES. SYLLABUSES. LET’S GO, NMS!

Our middle schoolers jumped right into Day 1, getting settled, finding their way around and getting to know one another. Our new sixth graders spent time learning the ropes of their new school, while our seventh and eighth graders stepped up to show them the way. It's such a special school community at our middle school. From lockers to learning and everything in between, it was an amazing first day at. A new year. Same RedHawk spirit.

➕ LET’S MAKE THIS YEAR ADD UP TO SOMETHING GREAT!

Next stop: Valley Cottage Elementary!

Our Pre-K through 5th grade RedHawks kicked off the first day with smiles, new faces and some seriously fun school community icebreakers, including a little game of Pass the Pencil. They got to know their teachers, their classmates and all things VCE while jumping right into a new year of learning. Looks like the equation is already adding up: great things ahead!

🖍️ DESIGNING THE FUTURE AT LES!

Our Pre-K through 5th grade RedHawks jumped right into the swing of things on Day 1. New teachers, new classrooms, new routines and plenty of new things to discover. From getting to know their teachers to getting to know all things LES, our learners wasted no time getting started. This year, we’re ready to lead with compassion and create something great together. The future looks pretty good from here.

WELCOME BACK, NPS!

The is here, and we’re looking ahead to an incredible year! 🎯

🏫 Across NPS, our staff is ready to welcome back our learners and families and begin a new school year filled with opportunity, connection and possibility.

🎥 To kick things off, Superintendent Dr. LRG is unveiling the first episode of 30 Seconds of Insight, a series spinoff where she’ll share her vision for the year ahead and give our school community a look at what’s on the horizon.

This year, we’re focused on courage, compassion and community, while creating a place where everyone can Be Real. Be Bold. BELONG.

So let’s look ahead, aim high and make the most of the year.

Our vision is clear. Our sights are set. Let’s get started, NPS!

A new school year is more than a fresh start—it’s a chance to move forward together.

Today, Dr. LRG brought the NPS community together for Superintendent’s Conference Day to reconnect, recharge and get RedHawk ready for the 2026–27 school year.

Building on last year’s Be Real. Be Bold. Be NPS., this year we’re taking it one step further: BE REAL. BE BOLD. BELONG.

During our interactive school opening, we shared our stories, learned more about one another and grew closer as a district. But belonging is about more than seeing each other, it’s about seeing our students, hearing their voices and the difference we make in their lives.

Our surprise keynote speaker, middle school student Brianna P., reinforced that message in a big way. She brought down the house with her powerful address, earning a well-deserved standing ovation. Her words highlighted the lasting impact educators have on students and celebrated the many things that make NPS such a unique, inclusive and forward-thinking place to learn and grow.

Because belonging is something we create through our actions, our relationships and the way we show up for one another. It’s about having each other’s backs, rooting for one another, advocating for what’s right and creating a place where everyone feels recognized, supported and valued.

Looking ahead. Setting our sights high. Rising together, with courage, compassion and community.

🚗 As we kick off a new school year, let’s make safety part of the routine.

We’re sharing a few distracted-driving and school-bus safety reminders from our visit with the Coach Knapp Memorial Fund Foundation, sponsored by Amazon and in collaboration with SADD Nation.

A few reminders for every driver:

📵 Put the phone away. Silence notifications and keep your phone out of reach before you drive. If you need to text, pull over and park safely.

👀 Stay focused. Keep your eyes on the road and watch carefully for students, especially near schools, neighborhoods and bus stops.

🚌 See the bus? Slow down. Yellow flashing lights mean the bus is preparing to stop—slow down and get ready to stop.

🛑 Red lights + stop arm = STOP. Never pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. Wait until the lights stop, the arm retracts and the bus begins moving.

🚸 Expect the unexpected. Children may be crossing or moving around buses and bus stops, so give yourself extra time and space.

One text. One glance. One hurry. It’s not worth the risk. Let’s keep our RedHawks safe all year long.
