Why Seven Hills Road? 🤔

One of the biggest questions we’ve heard about a potential new library is why this location was chosen. In our newest blog post, we share the reasoning behind the proposed site, the benefits it offers for the future of O’Fallon, and what could happen to the current library building if the referendum passes.

No site is perfect, but this location gives us the strongest foundation to grow with our community for years to come.

Summer Reading is about more than prizes and tracking books. It’s about helping kids stay curious, build confidence, discover new interests, and create habits that can last a lifetime.

Our newest blog post, Planting Seeds for a Lifetime of Learning, takes a closer look at why Summer Reading matters and the impact libraries can have during the summer months for children, families, and the community as a whole.

With our “Plant a Seed, Read” Summer Reading Program kicking off May 30, there’s never been a better time to get involved.

That’s the focus of our Together O’Fallon blog series: Building What’s Next.

A new post is out today: When Growth Outpaces Space. It looks at how O’Fallon has grown over the last 30 years, the increasing demands on the library, and why conversations about future space matter.

Library Director Ryan Johnson answers an important question from a community member who recently asked: “Why do we need a new library when accessibility to electronic means are available in every home just about? The internet is common today.”

While technology is everywhere, access and understanding are not. Of the more than 136,000 people who visit the library each year, not everyone has a smartphone, reliable internet access, or the confidence to navigate today’s digital world safely.

Many community members come to the library for help learning how to use devices, avoid scams and misinformation, access important resources online, apply for jobs, print documents, and stay connected.

And beyond technology, the library continues to provide vital in-person services. One example is the AARP Tax Assistance program, which fills up every year, often forcing us to turn people away because demand exceeds available space and resources.

That’s one of the many reasons the library is exploring the need for a new building: to better serve the growing needs of the entire community.

The library is more than books. It’s access, education, connection, and support for everyone. Find more info and answers to questions like this at OFPL.info/togetherofallon
