Happy National Library Workers Day!

Library professionals play a vital role in the communities they serve, and today, we celebrate their dedication, impact, and service.

Want to show your appreciation? Nominate a colleague, director, or manager for an ILA Award. Each year, the ILA Awards Committee seeks the Illinois library community's help to recognize the exceptional professionals who go above and beyond every day.

There’s an ILA Award for everyone who works in your library. Help us honor someone on your staff by submitting a nomination!

The deadline to submit a nomination is Thursday, May 15, 2025 https://ow.ly/kwQL50Vw76m

This administration continues its attacks on the parts of our government that lift up every American. Now they are trying to dismantle the one agency that supports public libraries.

🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen.

Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it.

We'll have more to share in the coming days. But what can you do right now? Call your members of Congress. Call your state and local officials. Tell them exactly what's at stake if the President's order stands: the future of America's libraries. It's time to Show Up : bit.ly/ProtectLibraryFunding

The Board of Oak Park Public Library Trustees’ executive director search committee has identified three exceptional finalists that will now advance to final interviews with the full Board in early March. At that time, they will also tour the Main Library and have the opportunity to engage with library staff members. All finalists hold Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degrees.

The Board expects to extend an offer and vote to approve the new executive director at a public meeting in March with a public announcement following. The Board will host a community open house to introduce our new executive director.

Throughout the search process, the Board’s search committee has been supported by the highly respected Koya Partners, whose expertise and commitment to an equitable search process, was invaluable and helped attract more than 40 applicants from across the country. Updates were given at regular board meetings, as well as search committee meetings every two weeks.

The search process included thoughtful contributions from Library staff, as well as community members through an anonymous survey in which more than 200 residents shared insights on the qualities, qualifications, and leadership experience they hope to see in the next executive director, along with valuable suggestions for interview questions.

For more detailed information on the search process and timeline, visit this web page (oppl.org/board).

E-Rate is an important program that helps libraries across the country provide crucial internet access to their community members.
I am proud that our library is a part of ALA who is fighting this effort.

An important read as more news stories appear every day about efforts to suppress crucial voices and to keep our children close minded.

People who read don't censor books, writes Natalie Moore, who talked with the former head of the American Library Association about the current wave of book bans across the country.
