The Oak Brook Police Department is comprised of forty sworn and twelve non-sworn members dedicated to providing the very best law enforcement services to our community. The Oak Brook Police Department had been a nationally accredited police department since 1997 and was re-accreditated by CALEA in November 2013. The Village of Oak Brook is a full service community located on the eastern DuPage Co

unty border along the I-88 Reagan Memorial Tollway Corridor. We are home to Oakbrook Center, McDonalds Corporation Global Headquarters, Ace Hardware Corporate Headquarters, as well as numerous other international and national corporations, retail establishments and restaurants

The Oak Brook Police Department is staffed by highly trained professionals who are committed to a community oriented policing philosophy. We pride ourselves on the high level of service we provide all of our stakeholders. As a community policing strategy, the Police Department utilizes the “Homeowners’ Association Liaison Officer’s” Program or HALO for short. HALO is a collaborative effort between the Police Department and the twenty-seven separate homeowners associations that make up the residential portion of Oak Brook. Officers are assigned to each homeowner’s association and serve as a primary conduit of information between the Police Department and the residents. Along with our community policing efforts, the Oak Brook Police Department has a Support Services Unit that works closely with Butler School District 53, the Oak Brook Park District, and provides DARE, Alive at 25, BASSET training, a community speaker’s bureau, and security surveys for both residential and commercial properties. The Investigations Unit is comprised of five general case Detectives and a Detective Sergeant that investigate nearly 600 Part 1 offenses per year.

Court Grants State’s Motion to Detain Pre-Trial Des Plaines Man Charged with Leading Police on a High-Speed Chase

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin and Oak Brook Chief of Police Brian Strockis announced that Judge Joshua Dieden has granted the State’s motion to deny pre-trial release for a Des Plaines man accused of leading police on a high-speed chase Sunday evening. Anthony Miller, 36 (d.o.b. 10/23/1989) of the 1100 block of Holiday Lane, appeared in First Appearance Court yesterday morning charged with two counts of Aggravated Fleeing and Eluding (Class 4 Felony) and one count of Misdemeanor Driving While License Suspended.
On May 19, 2026, at approximately 6:35 p.m., Oak Brook police officers received information regarding a black pickup truck wanted in connection with an investigation of a Wheeling residential burglary earlier in the day. Chicago Police Helicopter Units advised the vehicle was traveling westbound on I-88 onto southbound Route 83. A short time later, officers with the Oak Brook Police Department located the truck, allegedly driven by Miller, after it turned onto westbound 67th Street from Route 83. Officers activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop as Miller approached Clarendon Hills Road. It is alleged that instead of pulling over, Miller fled from officers at a high rate of speed, crossing into the oncoming lane of traffic and ignoring a red light at the intersection of Route 83 and Clarendon Hills Road, before turning northbound onto Clarendon Hills Road. It is alleged that while on Clarendon Hills Road, Miller reached speeds of approximately 70 mph in a 30-mph zone before turning eastbound onto 63rd Street, at which time officers terminated their lights and siren out of safety concerns but continued to follow Miller. It is further alleged that on 63rd Street, Miller weaved onto the median and disobeyed a red light at the intersection of 63rd Street and Route 83 before turning northbound on Route 83, nearly colliding with northbound traffic. At this time, another officer with the Oak Brook Police Department activated his emergency lights and siren and pulled behind Miller at which time Miller pulled over to the shoulder of the road and was taken into custody.
“The allegations that Mr. Miller fled from multiple jurisdictions at a high rate of speed along multiple crowded expressways and local roads are outrageous,” Berlin said. “Once again, through the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies throughout the region, including the Chicago Police Department Helicopter Unit, the alleged driver of that vehicle, Anthony Miller, was taken into custody before anyone got hurt. I want to remind the public that law enforcement in DuPage County is 100% committed to putting an end to this epidemic of people fleeing from the police before our luck runs out and a simple traffic stop escalates, resulting in injury or death. I commend the Oak Brook Police Department for their good judgement and safe apprehension of the defendant in this case and thank all the agencies involved in this matter, particularly the Berkeley Police Department for their efforts and the Chicago Police Department Helicopter Unit for air support. I thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Anthony Raimondi and Michael Pingaj for their work in securing charges against Mr. Miller."
“Offenders continue to flee from law enforcement under the mistaken belief that they can evade coordinated police tactics, communication, technology, and aerial support,” Strockis said. “Like many before him, this offender quickly learned otherwise and is now in custody. I’d like to thank all the agencies that assisted during this incident, with special recognition to the CPD Helicopter Unit for their support. I’d also like to thank State’s Attorney Berlin and his team for their assistance and guidance throughout this case.”
Miller’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 1, 2026, in front of Judge Joseph Bugos.
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Chicago Man Sentenced to Eighteen Years for his Involvement in 2021 Shooting at Oak Brook Mall Days Before Christmas

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced today that a Chicago man has been sentenced to eighteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for his role in a 2021 shooting at the Oak Brook Mall two days before Christmas. Steve Lane, 33 (d.o.b. 11/2/1992) appeared in court this morning in front of Judge Mia McPherson, where he entered a plea of guilty to one count of Armed Violence, a Class X Felony. Following his guilty plea, Judge McPherson sentenced Lane to eighteen years. On December 29, 2021, Lane appeared in Bond Court where bond was set at $1 million with 10% to apply. He has remained in custody at the DuPage County Jail since that time.
On December 23, 2021, at approximately 5:44 p.m., officers with the Oak Brook Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at the Oak Brook Mall. Upon their arrival, officers found several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Following an investigation into the shooting, authorities learned that Lane, and another man, Tyran Williams, both of whom were armed, were involved in a verbal altercation that ultimately turned violent with shots being fired. Authorities further learned that Lane struck and injured Williams during the incident before fleeing the scene. He was taken into custody at the mall a short time later following a brief foot pursuit. When processing the scene, authorities found a Ta**us 9 mm handgun in the area where Lane fled after the shooting. Authorities also learned that four innocent bystanders were struck by gunfire. These individuals were transported to a local hospital for medical attention with non-life-threatening injuries and were released. Williams was also transported to a local hospital for medical attention and was released into custody on December 27, 2021. On December 30, 2021, Williams posted $100,000, or 10% of his bond, and was released from custody. On March 15, 2024, Williams was shot and killed in Chicago.
“First and foremost, on behalf of all the agencies involved in this matter, we are all extremely grateful that none of the injuries sustained by the innocent victims resulted in the loss of life,” Berlin said. “This display of such a complete and utter disregard for human life at a crowded mall just two days before Christmas is beyond comprehension. Thanks to the overwhelming response from multiple law enforcement agencies and hundreds of police officers from throughout the County, Mr. Lane was quickly taken into custody and will now pay a significant price for his actions. In DuPage County, public safety is our top priority and anyone who commits this type of violent crime in DuPage County will be apprehended, charged and, if found guilty, face a significant amount of time behind bars. I commend Assistant State’s Attorneys Lee Roupas - Criminal Bureau Chief, Robert Willis, Kelly McKay and Samantha Musick for their outstanding efforts on this case that led to today’s guilty plea and eighteen-year-sentence.”
