Impaired driving kills and injures someone in Wisconsin every two hours. That's the reality our Criminal Justice students are training to address.

Spectrum News 1 visited our Oak Creek Campus this week and sat in on a course where future officers learned to identify both alcohol and drug impairment, using field sobriety tests, body cam footage review, and techniques like the Romberg test to spot signs that aren't always obvious. Instructor Daniel Rossmann is preparing these students for the road, and some of them are already hired and days away from graduating. We couldn't be prouder of this group.

Impaired driving continues to be a serious issue across Wisconsin, with alcohol and drugs contributing to crashes, injuries and deaths.

We are excited to welcome 29 students to the start of the MATC Jailer Academy.

This new cohort represents a strong and diverse group of future professionals, including students from Cameroon, Senegal, Egypt, and Ghana, all beginning this journey together.

We want to thank the Milwaukee County Community Reintegration Center for its continued partnership and support. Opportunities like this give students valuable exposure to the field and help prepare the next generation of corrections professionals through hands-on, career-focused training.

We are proud to celebrate the start of this academy and look forward to seeing all that this cohort will accomplish.

A big thank you to the Oak Creek Police Department for joining us yesterday at MATC for an engaging K-9 Unit presentation.

Our students and staff had a great time meeting the officers, handlers, and their K-9 partners, learning more about their training and duties, and seeing their skills in action. Events like this give our Criminal Justice students a valuable chance to learn directly from professionals in the field.

We truly appreciate Oak Creek PD for sharing their time, experience, and partnership with MATC.
