West Middle School’s 8th graders recently took a field trip to Chicago Chinatown, bringing more than two years of Chinese language learning to life!

Students explored cultural landmarks, enjoyed authentic Chinese cuisine, practiced their Chinese skills, and experienced Chinese culture. From delicious food and unique shops to beautiful architecture and cultural traditions, the day was filled with learning, laughter, and memorable experiences.

It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces enjoying Chinese culture beyond the classroom!

Chinese Club wrapped up the year by learning how to play Jianzi (Chinese shuttlecock kicking)! 🪶

Most students had never played before, but they quickly fell in love with this fun traditional game. Students practiced individually, worked together in teams, and cheered each other on with lots of laughter along the way.

A wonderful way to celebrate culture, teamwork, and our last Chinese Club meeting of the year! 😊

Congratulations to 8th graders Kaylee and Eden each earned 3rd place at the 23rd Annual Wisconsin Chinese Language Speech Contest. This marks our 12th consecutive year of Oak Creek Middle School students receiving awards in this competition!

We’re also proud to celebrate a special first this year—7th graders Lily and Addisyn performed in the opening ceremony with a fun, high-energy cheerleading routine. Dressed in adorable panda costumes and holding golden pom-poms, they brought joy, enthusiasm, and a wonderful spirit to the event!
