Once a month we visit one of the schools in the Oak Grove R-VI School District for lunch.

Here are just a few details received from the school when the monthly event was just an idea:

While we are incredibly fortunate to have wonderful School Resource Officers (SROs) who provide a vital sense of security and mentorship, we want to expand those opportunities for connection. Our goal is to give every officer and firefighter a chance
to step into our buildings, sit down with our students, and build relationships that go beyond emergency calls.

The Vision for "Lunch with Heroes":

● Relationship Building: We want our students to see you as mentors and neighbors. By sharing a meal, you help humanize the badge and the uniform, fostering trust and safety from a young age.

● Positive PR: This program provides a consistent, positive presence for your departments within the community, showcasing the "people behind the profession."

● Career Inspiration: Many of our students are looking for their future path. Your presence helps them realize that serving their community as a first responder is a rewarding and attainable option.

Our main goal has been simple: to show these kids the real, everyday humans under all this heavy gear. We hope we’ve created a welcoming, positive space where they feel safe and comfortable around usβ€”and if we’ve managed to inspire a few future firefighters along the way, that’s the highest honor we could ask for. We love this partnership and look forward to our monthly lunch. We may enjoy this more than the kids! πŸš’πŸš“πŸš‘

Sni Valley Firefighters visit each 4th grade classroom once a month. We teach them one topic a month: Home Escape Plans, Holiday Safety, Fire Behaviors, First Aid & CPR, How & When to Call 911 and the importance of knowing your home address and weather safety.

This months lesson is Home Escape Plans.

Know Two Ways Out: Every room (especially bedrooms) should have two designated exit routesβ€”usually a primary door and a window/secondary door.

Get Low and Go: Smoke rises, so staying close to the ground ensures cleaner air while escaping.

Touch Doors Before Opening: Use the back of the hand to test door temperature or check for smoke leaking through cracks before opening any door.

Designate an Outside Meeting Place: Choose a fixed, safe spot at a safe distance in front of the home (e.g., a specific tree, mailbox, or neighbor's light pole).

Get Out and Stay Out: Once outside, never go back inside for pets, toys, or belongings. Call 911 from a safe outside location or a neighbor's house.

Today, our crew is conducting simulated Search and Rescue training utilizing a fog machine to simulate smoke.

Realistic scenario training is crucial for operational readiness. By removing line-of-sight in a controlled environment, first responders refine critical skills including:

Spatial Navigation: Navigating complex floor plans by touch and specialized search patterns.

Victim Location: Practicing tactile sweeps and thermal imaging technology under realistic constraints.

Air & Stress Management: Maintaining calm breathing and clear radio communication under high-stress conditions.

Continuous hands-on training ensures our team remains prepared to protect our community in any environment.

Empowering Our Community with Lifesaving Skills! πŸš‘πŸ’¨

A huge thank you to the Oak Grove Chamber of Commerce for having us at the luncheon this week! Our crew had a great time providing hands-on CPR demonstrations and sharing lifesaving techniques with local business leaders and community members.

When cardiac emergencies happen, every second counts. Immediate, effective CPR combined with rapid EMS arrival drastically improves survival rates.

πŸ“ˆ Did you know? Emergency call volume in our district grows by 5% every year.

That’s why our November ballot proposal focuses on keeping our community protected:

πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ Adding 6 full-time personnel to boost daily shift strength.
πŸš‘ Keeping 3 ambulances fully staffed and operating 24/7.
πŸ“‰ Guaranteed Property Tax Relief β€” with 50% of revenue rolling back local property taxes (RSMo 321.552 & 321.554).

From community CPR classes to 24/7 emergency response, we're dedicated to protecting the Sni Valley Fire Protection District every step of the way!

We received this heartwarming comment from a local patron:
"I will always be willing to pay higher taxes for public health/safety and schools!"

First off β€” THANK YOU MARCI for your support of Sni Valley Fire Protection District (and all public health and Oak Grove R-VI School District!) Our crew is honored to serve you every day.

But here’s the best part about the November ballot proposal that many residents might not know: It's designed to provide PROPERTY TAX RELIEF! πŸ‘πŸ“‰

πŸ”Ή How it works: Under Missouri law, 50% of every dollar generated by this 1% sales tax MUST be used to roll back local operating property taxes.
πŸ”Ή Sharing the responsibility: Instead of funding emergency services solely through local property owners, thousands of visitors and travelers passing through our district on I-70 will help fund our 24/7 response capabilities.

It’s a win-win: strengthening emergency medical and fire response while easing the property tax burden on our homeowners.

National Dessert Day?!?

This might be our favorite holiday! We’ve been known to indulge in some sweet treats a time or two… calories don’t count on National Dessert Day, right?! Between training drills and emergency calls our crew takes National Dessert Day very seriously. Whether it’s ice cream, cookies, or a slice of cake left by thoughtful citizens, we never turn down a sweet treat. While we’re indulging our sweet tooth today, we’re also working hard to make sure our community stays educated on the November ballot:

🍰 Sweet deals for our community

πŸ›’ Visitors share the cost: A 1% sales tax brings in funding from shoppers and commuters passing through Sni Valley.
🏑 Property tax relief: 50% of the sales tax revenue automatically rolls back local property tax levies.
πŸš‘ Better coverage: Funds 6 full-time personnel to keep 3 ambulances staffed 24/7.

How does the Property Tax Rollback work? πŸ‘πŸ“‰

Did you know that under Missouri law (RSMo 321.552 & 321.554), 50% of all sales tax revenue collected by the district MUST be used to reduce local operating property taxes?

What does this mean for you?

β€’Instead of relying solely on property owners, emergency services funding becomes a shared responsibility across everyone who shops or passes through our district.
β€’As sales tax revenue comes in, property tax rates are rolled back proportionately each year.

πŸ’‘ It’s a balanced approach to keeping our community safe while protecting home and landowner budgets.

We will be on the ballot this November. Let’s get educated on what the question means! πŸš’

The Sni Valley Fire Protection District has a sales tax proposal on the November 2026 ballot. Following feedback from our community, this measure explores a new approach under recently updated Missouri law.

Here are the key facts every resident should know:

What is being proposed? A 1% sales tax on retail purchases within the district.

Guaranteed Property Tax Rollback: By Missouri law (RSMo 321.552 & 321.554), 50% of all sales tax collected each year MUST go directly toward reducing our local operating property tax levy.

Sharing the Responsibility: A sales tax ensures that visitors, shoppers, and commuters who pass through our district help fund the emergency services protecting everyone.

What It Funds: Emergency call volume has grown by 5% each year. Sales Tax Revenue will allow us to add 6 full-time personnelβ€”putting 2 extra firefighters on shift daily and keeping 3 ambulances operating at all times.

We are committed to full transparency and making sure you have all the facts before Election Day.
