Behind every 911 call is a calm voice working through chaos. ICOM Telecommunicators work 12-hour shifts handling everything from medical emergencies and domestic disputes to major accidents and life-threatening situations.

Our dispatchers gather critical information, coordinate police, fire, and EMS responses, provide lifesaving instructions like CPR, and support callers through some of the hardest moments of their lives — all while managing multiple screens, radios, and incoming calls at once.

It’s a career built on teamwork, quick thinking, compassion, and resilience. No two shifts are ever the same, but every shift matters. We are proud of the dedicated professionals who serve our community behind the headset each and every day. 🎧🚓🚒🚑

⚾ WHAT is on 1st Base… and it matters.

“Okay, tell me exactly what happened?”

It might feel like a lot of questions—but every question has a purpose.

Our Telecommunicators are gathering critical details in real-time to ensure responders arrive quickly, safely, and fully prepared. The more information you can provide, the better we can help.

You may be asked about:
🔹 Injuries or medical needs
🔹 Weapons or potential safety concerns
🔹 Descriptions of people or vehicles
🔹 Direction of travel
🔹 Who is involved

Even if you’re unsure or don’t have all the answers—that’s okay.
💬 Just tell us what you know.

Behind every call is a trained professional working to get help to you as fast as possible. You are part of that response.

⚾ Up to bat 1st…WHERE... and it matters.

When you call 911, the very first question you’ll hear is:
“What is the address of the emergency?”

That’s not by accident—location is everything.

Before help can be sent, we need to know WHERE to go. The more clearly and quickly you can provide that, the faster responders can get to you.

📍 Your location can be:

A specific address
A business name (and where you are inside or outside)
A roadway with cross streets or mile markers

Even if you’re unsure—stay on the line and give us what you can. We’ll help guide you.

Every second counts.
Start with WHERE so we can get help on the way—fast.

⚾️Telecommunicator Week Spotlight: The Starting Lineup⚾️

When an emergency happens, the first voice you hear isn’t always seen—but it’s always there.

At ICOM 911, our Telecommunicators are The Starting Lineup—the first responders behind the scenes who set everything in motion. From the very first ring, they are already working to gather critical information, provide life-saving instructions, and coordinate the right response—quickly and calmly.

They are the steady voice in chaos. The calm in the storm. The connection between a call for help and the responders on the way.

Every call is different. Every second matters. And every time, they show up ready to serve and hit it out of the park!

This week, we celebrate the dedication, skill, and heart of our Telecommunicators—the true starting lineup of emergency response.

📞 What Does a 9-1-1 Telecommunicator Actually Do?

When you call 9-1-1, help doesn’t start when lights and sirens arrive… it starts the moment your call is answered.

Our Telecommunicators are the first first responders—working behind the scenes to keep our community safe every single day.

Here’s what that looks like:

🚨 They Answer the Call - 911 and Non-Emergency phone lines
• Calm callers during some of the worst moments of their lives
• Ask critical, structured questions to quickly understand what’s happening
• Provide life-saving instructions (CPR, choking, bleeding control, etc.)

🧠 They Process Information in Seconds
• Listen, type, and think—all at the same time
• Enter details into a Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system with accuracy
• Determine the priority of the situation to ensure the right response

🚓 They Dispatch Help
• Send police, fire, and EMS to the right location—fast
• Coordinate multiple agencies during complex emergencies
• Provide real-time updates to responders in the field

🛡️ They Protect Both the Public AND Responders
• Track where units are at all times
• Monitor for responder and caller distress
• Share critical safety information instantly

💬 They Stay Calm So You Can Be Heard
Even when situations are chaotic, emotional, or life-threatening—
your 911 Telecommunicator is trained to stay steady, focused, and in control.

💛 Behind every emergency response is a voice you may never see—but one that is guiding help to you every step of the way.

✔️ Determine the situation
✔️ Send the right responders
✔️ Provide life-saving instructions
