FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - The City of Oak Harbor Announces the Passing of Former Mayor Bob Severns
Oak Harbor - June 5, 2026 - The City of Oak Harbor announces with sadness the passing of former Mayor Bob Severns, who passed away surrounded by his family on June 4.
Mayor Severns was elected to serve on the Oak Harbor City Council, Position 4, on January 1, 2008. He served on City Council until December 2015, then was elected to serve as Mayor on January 1, 2016. He served two consecutive terms.
“Bob loved Oak Harbor and devoted countless hours to making our city a better place,” said Mayor Ronnie Wright. In an email sent to all City staff on June 5, Mayor Wright stated, “I am sorry to have to write this message to you all this morning and inform you that former Mayor Bob Severns passed away yesterday afternoon. Mayor Bob passed peacefully with his loving wife Rhonda by his side. He wanted everyone to know that he loved them, but it was time for him to go.”
Throughout his years of public service, Mayor Severns was known for his collaborative approach, strong advocacy for local businesses, and dedication to ensuring Oak Harbor remained a vibrant and welcoming community.
The City of Oak Harbor extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. His contributions to Oak Harbor will not be forgotten, and his legacy will continue to be felt throughout the community he loved and served.
