We've been seeing concerns on social media about strange smelling tap water.
If this is something you are experiencing, try this first:
Run your cold water for a few minutes and see if the odor clears.
If the smell continues, contact the Water Division or submit a concern through our Resident Action Form here https://www.oakharbor.gov/formcenter/public-works-11/resident-action-request-form-69
Providing your exact address and contact info helps our team follow up.
Possible odors can sometimes come from your sink drain, especially in the kitchen, or from the hot water tank or sink drains (see info on anode rod reaction below).
Anode Rod Reaction: Water heaters contain a metal rod (the anode) that stops the tank from rusting. Magnesium rods can react with sulfates in the water to create hydrogen sulfide gas. This usually means the anode is at the end of its useful life.

STORM WATER AWARENESS MONTH
Have you spotted these mats yet? Well, this weekend while you’re enjoying the Oak Harbor Music Festival, keep an eye out for our storm water mats.
These mats have an important job other than just looking cool….. Storm water can carry trash, oil, and other pollutants straight into our waterways.

WIND ADVISORY – ISLAND COUNTY
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a **Wind Advisory for Island County** for **Wednesday, September 2, from 2:00 AM until 8:00 PM.**
**FORECAST**
• Sustained winds of **15–25 mph
• Wind gusts up to **40 mph**
**POSSIBLE IMPACTS**
• Downed tree limbs and wind-blown debris
• Scattered power outages
• Possible disruptions to regional ferry service
Residents are encouraged to **secure loose outdoor items, use caution while traveling, and be prepared for possible power outages.**
The **Island County Department of Emergency Management (DEM)** is monitoring the system and any potential impacts.
**Utility Readiness:**
• PSE is moving to a heightened state of readiness.
• SnoPUD is monitoring weather conditions and maintaining normal operations.
Please report significant weather-related incidents, road blockages, or infrastructure damage to the appropriate authorities.

Stop by Windjammer Park for a BBQ lunch and fun for the entire family. Event ends at 3pm today.

Seeing a lot of different colored arrows around town today or heading north or toward Deception Pass this weekend?
The Deception Pass Classic is Sat. and Sun., so expect cyclists on roads around Skagit and Whidbey counties.
SR 20 near Campbell Lake Road also remains reduced to one lane of alternating traffic through Sept. 4 while crews prepare for a new roundabout. The work is on a key route between Anacortes and Whidbey Island, so keep that in mind if you’re headed to the ferry or across Deception Pass.

It may have been a cold and windy Whidbey day, but the Finance Team made sure there was plenty of sunshine at our staff picnic!
