🚨 Rescue Alert 🚨

U.S. Coast Guard Station Oak Island rescued 2 people after their 12-foot jon boat began taking on water near Bald Head Island, .

One person was found holding onto a cooler, while the other remained aboard the boat. Both were brought to safety, and the boat was successfully towed back to shore.

People safe ✅
Property saved ✅

All in a day’s work for rescuers! ⚓

⚠️ LAW ENFORCEMENT EXERCISE NOTICE ⚠️

The Coast Guard, along with federal, state, and industry partners, are scheduled to hold an active-shooter/active threat full-scale exercise Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m on the Bald Head Island Ferry in the vicinity of the Southport Channel, on the Cape Fear River.

Residents and community members around the Oak Island area should expect large numbers of public safety personnel, vessels, sirens, and simulated activities. These activities are associated with the exercise and will not pose a threat to the public.

The Bald Head Island Ferry will operate as usual for the duration of the exercise.

This important full-scale exercise is organized by the regional Area Maritime Security Committee and will simulate a response to an attack against the marine transportation system. It is designed to enhance regional response readiness to ensure public safety and security.
