An F-85 Oldsmobile parked in front of a home similar to homes in Oak Lawn in 1963. The car was being promoted by Jack Thompson Oldsmobile located at 4040 W. 95th Street. A woman, wearing a dress & white gloves stands in the driveway admiring the car and the home is a typical Mid Century ranch home of this era. Those were the days!

Workers cleaning up near a construction site in 1940, near 50th Avenue and 95th Street, looking northeast. A Village of Oak Lawn Department of Streets dump truck is at the site. The caption reads "A Clean City 1940 Mayor Al Brandt". Brandt was the Mayor of Ok Lawn from 1935-45. The railroad crossing at 50th Avenue is visible in the background on the left and a Coca Cola sign is on a gas station at that corner. Also seen is WWI French built Renault FT tank can be seen on a memorial site that was established in 1937.

Erik Blome, the sculptor who created Oak Lawn's 9/11 Memorial at the Metra station will be giving a talk in honor of the 25th anniversary of 9/11. The program begins in the Library meeting rooms, then people can walk or drive over to the memorial. We hope you can join Erik. Details are listed below.

Oak Lawn resident Henry Ipema standing at a 2000 ft. barricade he erected on Southwest Highway, in 1935. Ipema had sold property to an organization that defaulted on payments, and a judge returned the land to him. Southwest Highway was built through the farm without Ipema's permission. The two small signs mention Sheriff Joan Toman and a court order.
