The Reading Dragons & Friends Reading Program for ages 5-14 returns to OLPL!

For every four 20-minute sessions of reading, kids will get a family of mythical creatures, including four cards. Pick up a reading log and claim your cards beginning Monday, Sept. 14.

September is the American Library Association's National Library Card Sign-up Month! This year the initiative encourages patrons to "B sharp" and sign up for a library card with the theme "a library card hits all the right notes!"

OLPL will be celebrating with our Library on the Go Sign-up Event on Saturdays, Sept. 5, 12, 19 & 26 from noon-3 p.m. at Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers, 11006 S. Cicero Ave. Raising Cane's will provide a tasty treat when you sign up. OLPL will give new card sign-ups a 3D printed keychain WHILE SUPPLIES LAST.

This super limited run of keychains was printed by OLPL's Computer Center to encourage Oak Lawn residents to sign up for library cards. Learn more about 3D printing at OLPL at: www.olpl.org/3d-printing

OLPL is thrilled to introduce Explore the Suburbs: Library Passport Adventure! Running from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the 2026 Library Passport encourages you to explore our local libraries. Each stop is a chance to learn something new, celebrate local history and connect with the communities that make our region unique.

From Tuesday, May 26 through Saturday, Sept. 5 pick up your passport from the Customer Services Desk and visit participating libraries. Bring your passport and your library card to your home library once you’ve finished your adventure. For every five libraries you visit, you will earn one entry into the Passport Raffle. Three lucky participants will each win a $100 Amazon gift card!

Thank you to Erik Blome for an insightful presentation on Thursday, Aug. 20. Blome delved into his process in creating the "Heralds of 9/11" memorial and answered patron questions.

Afterwards, Blome and attendees, including Mayor Terry Vorderer, went to visit the memorial at the Metra Patriot Station to hear the artist's view of the work on site. Thank you to all patrons who enjoyed this program.
