Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation works with donors to provide resources that have strategic impact. We are a charitable organization managing endowed funds to improve the lives of people in Oak Park-River Forest and other communities.

Calling all social impact partners! NextGen Leaders in Philanthropy, a giving group of the Foundation, is granting up to $2500 to nonprofit organizations that have an organizational capacity-building need. NextGen defines capacity building as developing further knowledge, skills, capabilities, etc., to increase effectiveness or support sustainability in an organization. Examples include:

● Attending a conference, participating in a class/training, working toward a certification
● Purchase of software or equipment & relevant training
● Hiring an expert consultant

Future Philanthropists Program students from OPRF, Trinity, Fenwick, and St. Ignatius high schools are working in partnership with Pete's Fresh Market in Oak Park, to support Ukrainian relief efforts. They have organized a drive to collect donations of personal care items, baby products, medical supplies, and daily living needs. Shoppers will be encouraged to buy and donate such items which will be collected by Future Philanthropists at the store. The students have made arrangements for pallets of these products to be air-transported to Warsaw for direct distribution to refugees.

Participate by shopping at Pete’s between the hours of 4 – 8 PM on April 14 and 15 and between 9 AM – 9 PM on April 16.

The Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation is pleased to announce Helen Morales has joined our team as a part-time Development Associate. She’ll help coordinate Foundation events and giving groups, in addition to supporting development efforts and donor services. Helen is very familiar with the western suburbs, having grown up in Lombard. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Illinois and plans to pursue a master’s degree in Public Policy.

“I am truly looking forward to learning more about the communities the Foundation serves and being a part of the positive impact the Foundation has and will continue to make in the west Cook region,” she says. Welcome, Helen!

The Kiwanis Club of River Forest / Oak Park awards several scholarships that range from $500 to $1,500, and this year the highest honor, the Kevin James McCole Kiwanis Scholarship, is potentially $2,000.

These scholarships assist high school seniors who have demonstrated exemplary efforts in community service to others, achievements in scholastics, and extra-curricular activities to attend the college of their choice. Due date is April 1, 2022.

The Rotary Club of OPRF established the Cassin-Germanson grant fund in memory of two of its most dynamic leaders, Virginia Cassin and Sr. Michelle Germanson, O.P. Applications are being accepted until March 1st for grants up to $600 to help female middle school students from 6th-8th grade explore emerging interests in hopes of being able to give them a valuable experience, education, and guidance as they transition to high school.

The Virginia Cassin & Sister Michelle Germanson Memorial Fund was established to honor the memory of two of The Rotary Club of Oak Park-River Forest most dynamic female members, and provides an opportunity for young female students (grades 6-8) with financial need to explore an emerging interest outside of their classroom.
