AgeOptions

AgeOptions AgeOptions is a nonprofit organization connecting older adults and their caregivers with resources and options so they can live their lives to the fullest.

AgeOptions plans, funds and coordinates programs and services for older adults, and advocates for them. AgeOptions is designated by the federal Older Americans Act and the Illinois Department on Aging as the planning and service agency for the 30 townships surrounding Chicago – home to more than 2.5 million people. Our responsibilities include funding and programming for the 130 communities in sub

urban Cook County, Illinois. We administer more than $15 million annually in federal and state funds. More than 88 percent of resources support services through grants to more than 60 community-based senior service organizations such as councils on aging, townships and senior centers. We also receive and administer grants for special programs from organizations across the country. Older adults, people with disabilities and those who care for them look to AgeOptions to identify resources and options that honor their goal of living their lives to the fullest. With a network of partner organizations, we ensure that older adults and people with disabilities in suburban Cook County maintain access to vital services such as in-home assistance and adult day services, nutrition and health care programs, as well as respite and other services for caregivers.

🚨 AgeOptions Avisery Alert: Medicare Data Breach Leads to New Medicare Numbers for Affected Beneficiaries 🚨

In October, there was a data breach at Healthcare Management Solutions, a Medicare subcontractor, that may have included personal identifying information of 254,000 beneficiaries. This breach did not include any CMS systems nor affect any Medicare claims data.

Medicare will be sending out letters to affected individuals notifying them of this breach. Individuals will also be receiving a new Medicare card with a new Medicare number.

If a beneficiary receives a letter notifying them that their information was a part of the data breach, Medicare is advising them to monitor their bank accounts, credit card usage, and Medicare Summary Notices. As of now, there have been no reported incidents of identity fraud due to this breach.

Once beneficiaries receive their new Medicare card, they should update all of their providers with their new information. Individuals should also destroy their old card.

AgeOptions, with our network of Centers, now offers TCARE (Tailored Caregiver Assessment and Referral) screenings to identify the specific drivers of a caregiver’s distress.

With the specific stressors identified, an individualized care plan is created to help the caregiver feel more equipped to manage their role and identity. Interventions, such as counseling, support groups and respite, may be suggested to manage stressors and prevent caregiver burnout.

For more information or to connect with your local Caregiver Resource Center, please visit http://bit.ly/3X8slGh or call 708-383-0258.

When we talk about sexuality and aging, LGBT+ elders have additional concerns regarding their gender and sexual orientation. For many of these elders, arriving at a time in life as a senior can evoke fears and concerns about “coming out” that they hadn’t dealt with in years.

This program, with a special presentation from author and educator Dr. Jane Fleishman with activist and longtime community leader Dr. Imani Woody, will offer the historical context and the voices of LGBT+ elders expressing their fears, hopes and desires in a unique environment of inclusion.
