AgeOptions AgeOptions is a nonprofit organization connecting older adults and their caregivers with resources and services.

Older adults, people with disabilities and those who care for them look to AgeOptions to identify resources and options that honor their goal of living their lives to the fullest. With a network of partner organizations, we ensure that older adults and people with disabilities in suburban Cook County maintain access to vital services such as in-home assistance and adult day services, nutrition and health care programs, as well as respite and other services for caregivers.

Last night, AgeOptions hosted our 22nd Annual Networking Reception, Celebrating Resiliency: Together We Thrive, and we are filled with gratitude.

Yesterday was about more than an evening together.

It was about coming together around the challenges facing older adults today, particularly food insecurity, and recognizing that no one organization can address these challenges alone. It was a reminder that when healthcare, philanthropy, community organizations, businesses, advocates, and individuals come together, we can create stronger pathways for older adults to remain healthy, connected, and independent in their communities.

Thank you to our panelists for helping us have an important and meaningful conversation about older adult food insecurity and the bold responses needed to address it.

We are also incredibly grateful to our sponsors, donors, partners, volunteers, Board members, Advisory Council members, staff, and every guest who showed up and invested in this mission. Together, we reached our fundraising goal for the evening!

That support will directly help fuel the programs, services, and advocacy that older adults and caregivers throughout suburban Cook County rely on.

Elizabeth Durkin, manager of health care education and counseling at AgeOptions, joins a panel of respected experts to talk about what financial health really looks like for older adults today and in the years ahead, from Social Security and Medicare to pensions and the rising cost of aging in place.

This weekend, AgeOptions President and CEO Diane Slezak and board member Mary Coonda came out to support fellow AgeOptions board member Dr. Lisa L. Campbell, The Growth Motivator, Dr. Lisa L Campbell, at her event Women Evolving: Igniting Growth, Healing and Transformation.

The day centered on Dr. Campbell's Shed the Weight framework, a reminder that the emotional, mental and physical loads we carry can be named, reflected on and set down. It's a message that resonates with so many in our community, especially caregivers who give so much of themselves every day.

We’re looking forward to an evening of connection, conversation, and collaboration with professionals and community leaders from across the aging, healthcare, nonprofit, and community sectors.

The evening will feature our panel discussion, Older Adult Food Insecurity: New Challenges and Bold Responses, moderated by Chicago journalist, Laura Washington, exploring the challenges older adults face in accessing nutritious food and the partnerships helping address them.

AgeOptions hosts a monthly virtual Advocacy Task Force (ATF) to highlight policy issues impacting older adults and caregivers. At each meeting, we provide federal and state advocacy updates while bringing together policymakers, advocates, community partners, and legislators to share information and strengthen connections. Today at 1:30PM CST, we will be talking all things Social Security. We will hear from experts on solvency, HR-1 implications, and much more. AgeOptions President and CEO Diane Slezak took the stage at the Des Plaines Theatre as a panelist for The Growing Gap: Cost of Living and Community Needs, hosted by Center of Concern.

Diane joined fellow panelists Danita Childers, Executive Director of the Housing Authority of Cook County; Tangela Enyia, Vice President of Government and Community Relations at Meridian Health Plan of Illinois; Dr. Kiran Joshi, Chief Operating Officer of the Cook County Department of Public Health; and John F. Schomberg, Assistant Secretary for Programs at the Illinois Department of Human Services. Together they discussed how rising costs for housing, food, and health care are affecting older adults, families, and people with disabilities across Illinois.

Thank you to Diane's fellow panelists for a meaningful conversation, and to Center of Concern for bringing it to our community.
