What an incredible week for AgeOptions at the 51st Annual USAging Conference & Tradeshow in sunny San Diego!

We are especially proud to celebrate our President & CEO, Diane Slezak, who received the prestigious USAging President's Award, one of the organization's highest honors recognizing extraordinary leadership and lasting contributions to the Aging Network. This national recognition reflects Diane's more than 50 years of unwavering commitment to improving the lives of older adults and caregivers, and we couldn't be prouder.

AgeOptions was also honored to share our work on the national stage, presenting at the conference highlighting innovative approaches that help strengthen aging services and improve access to critical benefits for older adults.

As inspiring as this week was, these accomplishments are only possible because of the incredible AgeOptions team. Thank you to the staff who represented our organization in San Diego, sharing their expertise, learning alongside colleagues from across the country, and bringing back new ideas to strengthen our work.
And to every member of the AgeOptions team: thank you for all the work you do to provide the necessary resources to ensure older adults and their families can thrive as they age. Your dedication to serving older adults and caregivers across suburban Cook County is the foundation of everything we accomplish. This recognition belongs to all of you.

Thank you, , for another outstanding conference and for bringing together leaders who are shaping the future of aging services. We loved spending the week in sunny San Diego, and we're already looking forward to reconnecting with colleagues from across the country in Savannah next summer!

AgeOptions was proud to be included in one of 17 proposals to be funded by the Resilient Chicago Fund. Rob Mapes represented AgeOptions alongside colleagues from dozens of organizations at a recent gathering hosted by The Chicago Community Trust, celebrating the first cohort of Resilient Chicago Fund recipients.

AgeOptions is part of a collaborative proposal led by the Help.Guide.Thrive Operations Hub, together with the Coordinated Care Alliance, the HAP Foundation and the Illinois Public Health Association. This funding will support the development and testing of a model to help older adults ages 55 to 65 retain their SNAP and Medicaid benefits.

We're deeply grateful to foundations investing in the Resilient Chicago Fund and to our partners for the collaboration that made this proposal possible. This support strengthens our ability to help older adults maintain the stability that comes with keeping the benefits they depend on.

July is Disability Pride Month, a time to celebrate the disability community's history and gains in the fight for inclusion. This month also marks a time to lift up the need for policies that strengthen community-based care, expand access to services, and acknowledge the 63 million American adults who have cared for someone with a disability or medical condition some time in the last year.

Medicaid home- and community-based services, the cornerstone of how older adults and people with disabilities manage chronic conditions and maintain a quality of life at home, are at serious risk for defunding and elimination. The National Alliance for Caregiving and the Caregiver Nation Coalition have developed an advocacy toolkit to help self-advocates, caregivers, and community members make the case for these programs to continue.

Take a small action this Disability Pride Month by learning more about these services, sharing a message of support with your community, or contacting a local decision maker to advocate for the continuation of community based services.
