Dryness may be because of low porosity, giving textured hair a dry, dull, and rough appearance. The lower the natural porosity, the more difficult it is for hair cuticles to absorb and retain moisture.

Try using lightweight daily conditioners with cocoa and shea butter that pe*****tes deep inside the hair shaft instead of coating the surface. Make use of protein-enriched deep conditioners once or twice a week, depending on the hair's specific needs.

If your child wants longer hair, here are five tips to help grow textured hair. It's good to remember, and however, that textured hair grows differently and shows its length differently.

Trim split ends each season to help the strands grow healthy.
Deep condition the hair once every two weeks.

Massage the scalp daily to stimulate blood flow at the scalp. Do this with your fingertips, and who doesn't love a scalp massage?
Wear protective styles to prevent drying and breakage.
NOTE: Braided styles boost the amount of growth you'll see.

Try using a sulfate-free shampoo if the hair feels stripped of its moisture and dry to the touch. The additives in most commercial shampoos can strip away the natural oils and weaken the hair strands, which leads to breakage.

A Kinky Love Story… My Journey to Embracing my Natural Afro Hair

Chanju Mwanza, a writer, and blogger for Verve shared a powerful testimonial on her journey to loving her textured hair. Many of the things she talks about in her testimony are things that others with the same hair type will identify with. We all have a story. We would love to hear yours! πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

It is natural to lose a certain amount of hair strands every day. But traction alopecia, a type of hair loss, is caused by heat, chemicals, and tight styles that pull at the hair root. Now you might think, "doesn't that include braid styles?" Before you panic, consider that any hairstyle, if done too tightly, can put too much stress on your child's roots. By avoiding this simple mistake, you can help reduce the chances of surplus shedding, breakage, and hair loss, while still maintaining the other protective benefits of a braided style. Every scalp is different so let your child's scalp tell you what it needs. When your child experiences breakage from a particular style, take it out, wash and hydrate the hair with a moisturizing conditioner. Focus on looser styles while you nourish their scalp and strengthen their roots.

Is your child a budding artist? Then you have got to tell them about Tyler Clark Inspirebytyler

Tyler is a Chicago based artist on a mission to promote self-love, faith, and women's empowerment. Tyler utilizes jewelry, hair, and fabrics in her art to give it three dimensional perspective and highlight the beauty of textured hair.

Growing up, Tyler's parents highly valued education, and she got a degree in engineering from Spellman and Georgia Tech. But Tyler always felt called to her art, and a few years ago, she began painting in the evenings, sacrificing valuable sleep and social hours after returning home from her 9-5. That commitment paid off in a big way when her art began going viral on the internet, and she was commissioned by several well known celebrities for custom pieces.

You can enjoy Tyler's work and follow her story on her website πŸ‘‰πŸΎ https://inspirebytyler.com/

We were all on the coconut oil fad a few years ago, but it's time we all admit it. Coconut oil is not for every hair type. But instead of just saying that, let's look at the science of it. You probably have a friend who swears by coconut oil, and its amazing way with their child's hair. But, understanding how coconut oil works can help you understand why it may not work for you.

Coconut oil can pe*****te inside the hair shaft due to its small molecular size, and also because it contains lauric acid which has a high affinity for hair proteins. That's great for fine to medium textures that tend to lack natural hair proteins, because protein is what gives the hair its strength and structure and results in healthier, shinier hair.

But if the hair is naturally drier, stiff, brittle, or coarse, coconut oil can cause protein build up for these hair types, blocking your hair from much needed moisture which makes your hair even drier, stiffer and less elastic - which will lead to breakage. It all boils down to the porosity of your hair. πŸ‘©πŸΎβ€πŸ¦± Remember that hair chemistry changes as we age, especially in young children who are rapidly developing. It is natural to need to adjust their routine as their bodies grow and change.

Just got your voicemail thanking me for donating! It was such a nice gesture on your part! I’m glad to support such an amazing cause! Much love to you all!
Up late and saw the editorial highlighting your business. Wonderful! I’m gonna spread the word. You’ve left nothing to question. What’s next.
Just saw the story on the CBS Morning Show...we can all be difference makers.
I just saw a segment on CBS of the work you are doing, and I'm so impressed. You are doing a wonderful thing. Salute'!
I just saw your story on CBS and wish more than anything you were in Columbus Ohio. My best friend has to African American children and a Hispanic child she has adopted. She's found a salon to do her daughters hair but the stylist ridicules this poor child for "talking white". The girl who is only 11 already has issues with ptsd from living on the streets and this doesn't help. I applaud you for what you are doing as it not only provides a needed service it gives understanding to both the children and the parents who have adopted them.
I thought you might like this book.
Heaven, isn’t this amazing.. such an wonderful cause. I was just thinking of you and social work. She specializes in teaching transracial adoptive or foster parents hair tips
As a mother of biracial daughters i think this is amazing what you are doing
The questions get asked all the time, β€œWhat do you put in your girls’ hair?” β€œWhat do you put in YOUR hair?” With the encouragement of my husband (who is tired of waiting for me to explain my entire hair care routine πŸ˜†) I created a space to help us find the perfect combo of products for all curly hair types without breaking the bank! It has also become a resource of hair care products, tips and techniques for Adoptive Parents of children of color ❀️ Please share, like and follow me on Instagram & Facebook at Life_with_Curlz
