Things to know regarding your trees after the late freeze we all experienced....

With spring approaching, you might have noticed your trees beginning to leaf out. This year is unique, however, because of the hit our evergreen trees took due to the polar vortex.

Fortunately, many of our native semi-evergreens – like the live oak and Mexican white oak – are beginning to grow new leaves as well. They might be harder to spot, as they would likely be mixed in with a litter of brown leaves that died during the winter storm, but if they’re sprouting new buds, your trees should be on their way to looking evergreen again.

If your evergreens STILL aren’t growing new leaves, it could just be a seasonal lag caused by deep freeze (you might’ve noticed Texas trees and wildflowers getting a late start this year!) – so be patient. But you can always check to see if your tree is still alive by gently scraping the bark of a small twig with your fingernail. If you see green beneath the skin, that twig – and the tree as a whole – is still alive.

Does anyone else feel that the CISD School buses in the afternoon are traveling at a much faster speed than 25 MPH through our city's residential streets?
Is anyone having water pressure issues today?
Will the garbage truck pick up the bulk and heavy items on Monday, Feb 1st? Not sure as they have not picked up the recycled bins from last Wednesday yet. We need to know if we should set out our bulk and heavy items Monday morning. thanks
So i believe if we have monday pickup from waste management then we have to hold off till monday for our pickup? But the question is will we be able to put all the extra garbage mext to the cans?
Can someone post an update on the status of water? I see updates from 4 hours ago , but I still have no water ( Pyeatt off Patsy)!
Our water had been working up til now. Anyone else having water problems?
Anyone missing this little guy, he was found at the gas station on Robinson close to Hannah. He had a green lead attached to his collar.
According to the National Weather Service and most local News Media outlets, the worst of our weather should start to hit in the next few hours, and could extend through Thursday (depending on how severe the second wave is on Wednesday). It will be incredibly cold for our area for the next 3 days or so, at a minimum. With that in mind, please be cautious about HOW you heat your home. Space Heaters can be fire hazards if not kept well away from flammables. If we lose power and you burn wood or gas in your fire place, your air won't be circulating and this can increase your risk of CO2 poisoning. Make sure your flue is open. If you have an emergency (fire, medical) during this event, call 911 immediately. Finally, I want to be very clear on this last point... Cruelty to Animals is a State Criminal Offense. Do not leave your pets in the arctic cold outside, that is cruel. A dog house with hay in it is NOT a defense against arctic cold. At the very least, move your animals into your garage. If you let them out to relieve themselves, or take them for a walk, please keep an eye on them and keep their weather exposure to a minimum. If an officer of the Oak Ridge North Police Department sees an animal being cruelly treated in this weather, I fully expect them to cite the responsible persons. Please do not be that person.
Hello Everybody. Be assured that your hand made crafts are cherished by all of us. Now that the holiday season is upon us, we would love for you to share the joy in your creation. By the way, it is free signup.
Trying to do work moving massive SEGY files around with Charter cable reminded me to check to see if there has been any progress on getting fiber going here in ORN. Can anyone update me on any progress? I know there was an RFP/RFI for conduit. And Tachus says 25% signups so far and I don't see any update from FastFiber either. However I don't see any postings around dates or activities, what is particularly frustrating is that I see Kingwood is getting their install done now. We are getting surrounded by other communities that have this access and making living in ORN less competitive.
When's the city going to do something at Robinson Rd and Westwood/ Patsy about the idiots getting in the shorter right turn lane and then going straight?
Good Morning everyone. Tachus has opened up signups for ORN to run for fiber internet to our homes. This would be anywhere from a 5x-20x improvement for most of us. Plus with working from home and remote schooling, streaming services the pressure on the network for many I'm sure is causing quality issues. Once we get to 20% of the homes Tachus can start running fiber to our homes. Please take a look and see it makes sense for you.
