Marie Collier has been volunteering for Oak Ridge Animal Shelter for 9 years. She had always wanted to volunteer for an animal shelter, so after retiring, the shelter was where she ended up! Her favorite part of being a volunteer is getting to play with and walk many kinds of dogs. She has adopted 3 big dogs since working with the animal shelter. Thank you, Marie!❤️🐶

NEXT WEEK: The Scarboro 85 Monument Foundation will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the Scarboro 85 Monument on 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟭𝟬 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟭 𝗮.𝗺. 𝗮𝘁 𝗔.𝗞. 𝗕𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸, at the future site of the monument.

It's always a wonderful time when we get to welcome our friends from Naka-Shi, Japan, to the City of Oak Ridge.

This year, the group that visited as part of the Sister City Exchange Program took a tour through the Municipal Building and Library, and walked to the Peace Bell. They even got to check out all the cool vehicles & equipment our Police, Fire, Public Works, and Electric departments use.

The visit provided an opportunity for students from Naka City and Oak Ridge to connect, learn from one another, and strengthen the friendship between our two sister cities.

It’s illegal in all 50 states to pass a school bus when the stop arm is out with flashing red lights. Always come to a complete stop for school buses when the stop arm is extended, and keep an eye out for kids getting on and off or crossing the street. It only takes a second to make a big difference.
