2026 marks JTFD1's 90th year of service to Jefferson Township. As part of our ongoing celebration, we will be sharing our Honor Roll of Chiefs to pay tribute to the men who have provided the leadership and knowledge that have turned JTFD1 into the organization that it is today.

Today we recognize Chief Frank Distasi who served as JTFD1's Chief in 1963. Thank you, Chief. Your dedication and service to our Department will not be forgotten.

2026 marks JTFD1's 90th year of service to Jefferson Township. As part of our ongoing celebration, we will be showing off the fire apparatus that have provided fire protection to the Milton community and beyond throughout the years.

In 1978, Chief Joe Weshefsky began talking to the Township about acquiring a vehicle that was parked in the DPW lot. That vehicle was a 1954 Army Surplus Deuce and a Half that would become JTFD1's first unit to be assigned 726, The Beast. The Beast was used to respond to the many wooded and inaccessible areas throughout the Milton area, as well as to many wildland fires during its years of service. The apparatus served JTFD1 until the late 1990's.

Last night, JTFD1 conducted their monthly training drill and did a joint drill with MFAS. During the initial part of the drill members refreshed climbing both ground and aerial ladders to enter/exit a building as well as utilizing a thermal imaging camera (TIC). MFAS also offered our members an introduction to their ambulances, where to find their equipment and how to operate the ambulances so we can better assist them when needed.

After these refresher stations were completed, members put all that was covered earlier into a few live evolutions to work in our training building. Members were split into teams to perform primary searches on both the first and second floors while a hose team advanced a hose line into the building to locate a simulated fire. The search teams utilized the ladder and TIC refreshers they went through earlier to enter the building and locate the victims. Once located, the victims were removed from the building and transferred to MFAs for their further evaluation.

Training with our Milton First Aid Squad allows us to foster a better working relationship for both departments.
