Make sure to call 811 the next time you plan an outdoor project such as:
📫️ Installing a fence, mailbox, or other below-ground posts
🌳 Landscaping, such as planting trees or shrubs
💧 Digging a hole for a pool, sprinkler, or other irrigation
TN 811 notifies utility companies of the intent to dig, and professional locators mark the approximate locations of underground lines with flags or spray paint at the site. Skipping this step could result in cutting the wrong cable, disrupting electricity, internet, gas, or worse.

Beginning October 1, 2026, Tennessee 811 will reduce the standard Notification Buffer applied to locate requests from approximately 343 feet to 200 feet. This change is intended to reduce unnecessary utility notifications while helping member utilities focus resources on locate requests that are more likely to involve their underground facilities.
