It's always a wonderful time when we get to welcome our friends from Naka-Shi, Japan, to the City of Oak Ridge.

This year, the group that visited as part of the Sister City Exchange Program took a tour through the Municipal Building and Library, and walked to the Peace Bell. They even got to check out all the cool vehicles & equipment our Police, Fire, Public Works, and Electric departments use.

The visit provided an opportunity for students from Naka City and Oak Ridge to connect, learn from one another, and strengthen the friendship between our two sister cities.

BIG NEWS! The Oak Ridge Fire Department is now among the nation’s highest-rated fire departments — achieving an ISO Class 1 rating this week!

This is the highest level of fire protection recognized by the Public Protection Classification (PPC) Insurance Services Office (ISO).

Effective 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, Oak Ridge will become the 𝗻𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗲 to reach this designation.

“Achieving an ISO Class 1 rating is something that reflects the work of our entire organization,” said Oak Ridge Fire Chief Travis Solomon. “This is years of work in the making. Our firefighters, dispatchers, water utility staff and everyone involved in emergency response have contributed to this achievement.”
