Join rangers this Saturday, May 9, to learn how the topography of East Tennessee shaped the Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge. A new history hike, Protecting the Project: How Geography Shaped America’s Secret City, leaves from the visitor center at 11am EDT. Learn more: https://go.nps.gov/qy2gws

All park programs are free and open to all.

Hike Route: 2-mile loop on the North Ridge Trail. Trail surfaces vary between paved sidewalk between Visitor Center & trailheads to dirt trails with tripping hazards. Trail has significant elevation changes (875' to 1200' elevation) with sections of both uphill and downhills on unpaved surfaces.

Come celebrate Manhattan Project National Historical Park's 10th anniversary on Thursday, April 30, 2026, with special events throughout Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Explore America’s Secret City and learn about the first 10 years of the park with free admission to Oak Ridge museums throughout the day. Participating museums include the American Museum of Science and Energy, Children's Museum of Oak Ridge, K-25 Atomic History Center, New Hope Center, and Oak Ridge History Museum. Park staff and volunteers will be at local museums from 10 am through 4 pm.

Event Schedule:
6:00 am – New Hope Center at Y-12 National Security Complex opens until 4:30 pm.

9:00 am - American Museum of Science and Energy & K-25 Atomic History Center open with free admission until 5:00 pm.

10:00 am - Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge & Oak Ridge History Museum open with free admission until 4:00 pm. The Flat Top house on museum grounds will be open free of charge.

4:00 pm –Reception with remarks from NPS and City of Oak Ridge at Oak Ridge Conference Center.

5:00 pm – Free showing of Oppenheimer at Cinemark. Registration with American Museum of Science and Energy is required.

ORSSAB will next meet February 11, but there's an earlier opportunity to hear about cleanup progress! from 5-6:30 p.m. January 29, Department of Energy - Oak Ridge Office of Environmental Management will have a poster session at the Oak Ridge Conference Center – 1403 Oak Ridge Turnpike.

Federal project managers will be on hand to discuss the work and many of the topics will be ones the board will hear about in more depth over the coming year.
