ORS Coordinated School Health Oak Ridge Schools Coordinated School Health (CSH) uses the 8 components of the CDC CSH model to promo

Coordinated School Health (CSH) is an effective system designed to connect health with education. Students’ health and their capacity to learn are enhanced through the support of families, communities and schools who work together in a coordinated, focused and cost-effective manner. The CSH model focuses on six critical health behaviors identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

(CDC) that contribute to the leading causes of death among youth and young adults. These critical health behaviors are: inadequate physical activity, unhealthy eating behaviors, tobacco use, sexual behaviors that may result in HIV infection, other sexually transmitted diseases and unintended pregnancies, alcohol and other drug use, behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence.

May 9th is National Fentanyl Awareness Day. Did you know that can be found in fake Oxy, Percocet, Adderall, and Xanax? Always order your prescriptions from a licensed doctor, and never take anyone else's pills.

It's Day 2 of the ORS Va**ng Prevention Week and today we want to look at the question, "Is va**ng safer that smoking regular ci******es?" Many people think that's true, but scientist aren't sure. Scientist also aren't sure if e-ci******es actually help people who smoke regular ci******es quit. In fact, one study found that adults who use e-ci******es to help them stop smoking actually end of smoking both e-ci******es AND regular ci******es. The best option? Don't start smoking or va**ng in the first place and if you already are, check out the flyer below for one resource to help you quit.

It's Va**ng Prevention Week in Oak Ridge Schools! This week we are focusing on something that seems to be everywhere these days--e-ci******es and va**ng. There is a lot of wrong information out there about these devices and we want to make sure that our students, parents and staff understand the dangers of using v**e devices. For example, have you ever been told that it's just water v***r coming out of v**e? It's actually an aerosol that contains dangerous substances, including ni****ne and chemicals that cause cancer. There is plenty to learn this week, so follow us to learn more facts or better yet, join us at our "Navigating Life through the Va**ng Drug Epidemic for Parents/Guardians" on February 15th from 5-6 pm at the ORHS Amphitheatre.
