Derek Guy is running for Anderson County Commission in District 6 because local government should work for working people.
Derek is a Journeyman Wireman and currently serves as the Membership Development Coordinator and State Political Coordinator for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 270. He has lived in Anderson County for 23 years and has spent years fighting for workers, fair wages, good jobs, and stronger communities.
He has also served our community through organizations including the Boys & Girls Club, Girls Inc., the Blossom Center, Oak Ridge Playhouse, the Ecumenical Storehouse, Stone Soup community meals, and local economic development organizations connected to Oak Ridge and the region’s growing energy economy.
Derek says he never planned on running for office, but after years of telling other people to step up and be the change they want to see, he decided it was time to do the same.
County Commission makes decisions that affect everyday life in Anderson County — jobs, growth, infrastructure, schools, public services, taxes, and whether working families have a real voice in local government.
Derek believes people who work hard should be able to earn a decent living, afford healthcare, retire with dignity, and raise a family in the community they helped build.
He is running to fight for working families, support education and workforce training, protect residents’ rights from personal political agendas, and make sure local government answers to the people of Anderson County — not just the wealthy, connected, or politically influential.
District 6 is a vote-for-two race for County Commission. We’re asking voters to cast both of their votes for the two Democrats in this race: Ebony Capshaw and Derek Guy.
