Students in the 8th Grade Intro to Broadcasting class at RMS recently put their skills to the test during their very own “Iron Chef” style competition! Working in teams of four, students planned and prepared a one-dish meal for four people, complete with their researched recipe, grocery list, and a $20 budget — all while incorporating at least one ingredient from the GIVE Club community garden.

Team Saucey Spoon prepared a delicious fettuccine alfredo with chicken, while Team Savory Stars created a restaurant-inspired crunch wrap. Both dishes received great reviews from judges for their texture and taste.

Teams were evaluated on teamwork, cooking skills, camera work, communication, and overall presentation. The event was a fun and creative way for students to showcase everything they’ve learned this year while also applying writing, math, filming, and collaboration skills in a real-world setting.

Thank you to Broadcasting teacher Ms. Leftwich, the student teams, and judges Mr. Tinker, Ms. Scott, Ms. Downs, and Ms. Peters for helping create such an engaging and memorable learning experience for students!

Glenwood Elementary School PTO 2nd-grade students proudly presented their Capstone Projects today! Students worked incredibly hard researching animals and insects and learning about the important roles they play in our environment. Throughout the project, students explored topics such as habitats, life cycles, food chains, pollination, adaptations, and how different species help keep ecosystems healthy and balanced.

We love seeing their creativity, curiosity, and hard work on display through these amazing projects. Great job, students!

STEM Manufacturing students recently hosted a student-led Salad Party with lettuce grown in the hydroponics room they helped create this year through an Oak Ridge Public Schools Education Foundation grant. From planting and growing to harvesting and sharing, students took ownership of the project while gaining hands-on, real-world learning experiences along the way. Leftover salads were even shared with teachers for a fresh, healthy lunch!

We love seeing students demonstrate creativity, leadership, and collaboration in their learning while bringing ideas like this to life. Thank you to our 8th-grade science teachers for supporting innovative opportunities that make learning meaningful and memorable - and delicious - for students each day!

At tonight's Board of Education meeting, we had the pleasure of honoring several retirees as they conclude remarkable professional careers and recognizing an ORHS student with an award for academics, community service, and leadership. We also had the opportunity to recognize the ORHS FCCLA team, who will be heading to the national competition this summer! It was a night full of gratitude and well-earned recognition. Please join us in congratulating all of our honorees on their outstanding achievements!

Students participating in this year’s 2026 Transition School to Work Summer Adjacent Camp spent the week building important Independent Living Skills and exploring opportunities for Community Involvement.

Throughout the camp, students engaged in hands-on learning experiences focused on health and hygiene, digital safety, financial literacy, healthy relationships, creativity, confidence, and problem-solving. Students learned from guest speakers Kelly Jones, ORS Interim Nursing Supervisor; Marcia Wade, ORS Coordinated School Health; Verna Shelden from the ; and Daniel Orahood, .valley.center PSR Specialist. Activities included Independent Living Skills Jeopardy, collaborative tabletop role-playing games, and creative art experiences.

We are grateful to the many community partners and guest speakers who helped make this experience meaningful for students. Most of all, we are proud of the students for giving their best effort and fully engaging in every opportunity throughout the week! A special thank you to Ms. Cady for coordinating such a meaningful and engaging camp experience for students.

Congratulations to ORHS Class of 2026 students Ella Hunt, Rowan Huggins, Lydia Daniels, Seanna Womack, and Patrick Lamb on being named recipients of the ORHS Class of 1970 Scholarship!

Presented in partnership with the Oak Ridge Public Schools Education Foundation and ORHS administration, these scholarships support students as they pursue technical training, community college programs, and four-year university degrees.

Committee Chair Dr. Ron Edmond shared, “The ORHS Class of 1970, ORPSEF, and ORHS administration are pleased to continue the tradition of recognizing and encouraging students in their pursuit of educational opportunities.”

For 15 years, the ORHS Class of 1970 Scholarship has helped invest in the future of Oak Ridge students, awarding more than 35 scholarships to deserving graduates from Oak Ridge High School and Secret City Academy. Thank you to the ORHS Class of 1970, ORPSEF, alumni, and community supporters for continuing to make opportunities like this possible for students!

For days leading up to graduation, our Maintenance & Operations and Technology teams worked behind the scenes preparing Blankenship Field, setting up staging and hundreds of chairs, managing sound, lighting, and livestreaming — even laying more than 400 feet of copper and 100 feet of fiber-optic cabling! A special thank you to M&M Productions USA for their generous donation and operation of the sound equipment that helped make this year’s graduation celebration a success!

Their hard work helped create a memorable celebration for the Class of 2026 and everyone who gathered to honor this milestone. Thank you for all you do for Oak Ridge Schools!
