California Aerial Supervision Academy (CASA) is the culmination of CAL FIRE’s annual aerial training. The two-week academy, sponsored by CAL FIRE and held jointly with the U.S. Forest Service - Shasta-Trinity National Forest Service, prepares trainees to direct aerial firefighting operations as an Air Tactical Group Supervisor.
The program offers a blend of classroom learning, flight simulator sessions, and orientation flights in Sacramento during week one.
Week two focuses on scenario-based training flights in Redding.
Multiple air tankers and helicopters, smokejumpers, and an interdependent training for airtanker base personnel will be a part of the complex scenarios flown in week two. Annual training for pilots and crews includes trainees from CAL FIRE and Forest Services employees.
