Station 209 was dispatched for a multi-vehicle accident with one rolled over at the Tonidale exit westbound on route 22 in North Fayette Township. While enroute, there were reports of one male still in the vehicle with a significant hand injury, upgrading the incident to an entrapment.
209 Chief arrived on scene and confirmed one confined in the rolled over vehicle. A 209 firefighter that happened to be driving by was able to apply the first tourniquet. Initially, the card dispatched only one additional rescue (215) due to the address given by callers. This was quickly noticed, and 245 and 152 were added to supplement the efforts and add manpower as this particular Highway zone normally calls for a minimum of three rescue trucks.
Crews worked to stabilize the vehicle and gain access to the patient, completing extrication 23 minutes from first tourniquet application.
Last evening at 1841 hours the Squad was added to an upgraded assignment to assist Rescue 209 (North Fayette) with a crash with entrapment. One patient was extricated from the auto and transported to a local trauma center. This was our 4th entrapment of the year.
