Today we bid farewell to Battalion Chief Tony Clayburg as he retires after 31 yrs in the fire service. Tony spent the last 26 years serving this great community. Tony spent his first 5 years working for the Point Mugu Fire Department and was hired by Santa Maria Fire Department in January of 2000, He was hired as a Firefighter, promoted to Engineer in 2004, and Captain in 2010. He served as a Battalion Chief since 2016. Good luck in retirement!

Engines 1, 3, 5, 2, 4, 6, Truck 1, BC2, SBC BC21, SMPD and AMR responded to a working fire on the 1000 block W Fesler. Crews found a well involved garage conversion spreading to the adjacent unit. Crews were able to save one family dog and keep the fire from spreading to more of the living space. Red Cross is assisting those displaced and the cause is under investigation. No injuries to report.

Pro tip: replace smoke detectors that are more than 10 years old and sweep off any dust.

Engines 5, 1, 3, Truck 1, BC2, SMPD and AMR responded to a structure fire on the 1200 block of E Sunset. Crews found a kitchen fire and all occupants safely evacuated. No injuries to report and cause is under investigation.

Your Santa Maria firefighters as well as firefighters from our surrounding communities spent the last couple days in the classroom learning about fire behavior and tactical considerations. Thanks to instructor Phil Jose for providing this valuable training with his class The Art of Reading Smoke. Engines 3, 1, 2, 5, Truck 1, BC2, SMPD and AMR responded to a fully involved vehicle fire located under apartments on the 300 block E Bunny. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and checked for extension above. Units above were vacant so no displaced individuals. Cause under investigation. No injuries to report.

E5, E1, T1, BC2 and AMR responded to a reported structure fire on Via Sabroso. Crews found a smoldering fire in the water heater cabinet and quickly extinguished it. One occupant was displaced. Cause under investigation. No injuries to report.
