I haven’t shared much about my State Senate campaign on this page, but this is one issue where the two intersect.

I’m clear-eyed about both the progress ISD 622 is making and the challenges we still face. I’ll always champion our students, educators, and district while being honest about where we need to improve.

I’m proud that graduation rates are up, attendance is improving, fights are down, and we’re seeing academic progress. I also see firsthand the growing needs our schools are being asked to meet and the importance of making sure they have the resources to do it well.

Being elected in a special election to serve a one-year term that ends in December 2026 has been an immense honor, and I’m ready to bring that experience and perspective to the State Capitol to champion our students and everyday Minnesotans.

I shared some thoughts on the two school funding questions ISD 622 residents will see on the ballot this November, and the bigger conversation Minnesota needs to have about how we fund public education. ⬇️

Happy first day of school in ISD 622! 📚🎒

I’m wishing everyone a terrific year of academic progress, personal growth, and fun times and memories.

ISD 622 is a uniquely diverse district in every single way, which makes us strong and provides a well rounded education. We’re also moving forward in the right direction with increasing graduation rates and test scores. At the same time, we are seeing increases in class sizes due to challenging financial constraints.

Thank you to all the students, families, teachers and staff who showed up today ready to have a phenomenal year!

This week marks the start of a new school year in ISD 622! 🎒📚

As our students and staff head back to the classroom, we have a lot to build on from last year. The data show that 622 is moving forward in the right direction, even as we know there is still important work ahead.

Here are a few highlights:

📈 Graduation is up. Our four-year graduation rate reached 86.3%, up nearly 5 percentage points since 2021 and now above the statewide rate.

🎓 More students are staying on track to graduate. Our dropout rate fell to 3.5%, below Minnesota's 4.2% rate. That's important: we're keeping more students connected to school and helping more of them make it across the graduation stage.

📚 We're seeing academic progress. Reading and math MCA results both improved last year, with particularly meaningful growth in grades 5–8. We still have a lot of work to do but the direction is encouraging.

🤝 Our schools are getting safer. Fighting incidents have fallen by roughly 60% since the 2022–23 school year, and John Glenn Middle School saw a 48% reduction in referrals for physical conflict last year.

🌟 And we're making this progress while serving one of the most diverse and economically challenged student populations in our area. More than **70%** of last year's graduating class qualified for free or reduced-price meals. Yet those students graduated at an **85.3%** rate—more than **9 points** above their peers statewide!

There is plenty of work ahead to ensure every student gets the support they need to achieve academically and personally.

When I ran for School Board, my campaign centered on student success, safety, and sustainability—both financial and environmental. I’m proud that we’ve made progress in these core areas, and I remain committed to pushing that work forward.

ISD 622 is the district that raised me, and it is an incredible privilege to serve this community. I’m committed to continuing that service through the end of my School Board term in December 2026 and doing everything I can to leave our district stronger than I found it.

As we begin a new year, we should recognize the progress our students, educators, staff, and families are making.

622 is moving forward. Now let's keep building on that progress together. 💙📚

It was a joy to attend ISD 622’s Summer Freedom School Finale last Friday at Justice Alan Page Elementary. These kids showed serious talent in the classroom and on stage.

90% of students participating in the program improved or maintained their reading comprehension, bucking the summer-slide trend.

Students were excited to come to school in the SUMMER to work on reading and their step routines. On last day of the program they showed off their talent to parents and community members, and every student got a free book to take home.

This effort was made possible via the Children’s Defense Fund and grant funding, leveraging outside revenue for greater impact.

I’m proud of the work our district does to support all students, whether that’s summer literacy programs, theatre, or sport camps.

ISD 622 has been voted Minnesota's Best in Adult Education AGAIN for the second year in a row! 🌟 🌟 🌟

Shout out to our truly amazing staff and teachers!!

🥇 We're Golden... Again! 🥇

We're honored to announce that Harmony Learning Center has been voted Minnesota's Best Gold Winner in Adult Education for the second year in a row! 🌟

After earning Bronze just three years ago, receiving Gold for two consecutive years is an incredible honor—and it's all thanks to our amazing students, dedicated staff, supportive community, and everyone who nominated and voted for us.

Minnesota's Best is a statewide, public-voted contest recognizing outstanding organizations across Minnesota, making this award especially meaningful because it comes directly from the people we serve.

Thank you for believing in our mission of providing no-cost adult education that changes lives through learning, opportunity, and hope.

💙 We couldn't have done it without you. Thank you for helping Harmony shine!

Last night, the school board approved our FY27 budget for the 2026-2027 school year. Check out my comments on the need for additional state or referendum funding to ensure we are investing in the kids of the future.

Congratulations to the 420 graduates of North High School’s 122nd graduating class!

It was an honor to attend last night’s commencement ceremony as a school board member and celebrate this incredible milestone alongside students, families, educators, and staff.

The Class of 2026 has much to be proud of. This year, 216 graduates earned college credit while still in high school, 48 earned AP credit, and 46 students achieved GPAs above 4.0.

I am also proud to share that ISD 622's official four-year graduation rate rose to 86.3%, up 3.5 percentage points from the previous year and above the state average.

I was especially impressed by the student speakers, Lily Dugger and Matthew Bono. Both delivered thoughtful and inspiring remarks that reflected the character, resilience, and determination of this graduating class. Matthew’s reflections on the challenges he and his classmates have overcome, including the loss of his sister to gun violence, were particularly moving and a reminder of the strength so many young people carry with them every day.

To every graduate, congratulations on your achievement. To every parent, guardian, family member, educator, and mentor who helped make this moment possible, thank you for your support and encouragement along the way.

The future is bright. Congratulations, North Class of 2026!

On to Tartan's graduation ceremony tonight! 🎓
