Today Oakham Firefighter Cameron Howe graduated with the members of Career Recruit Training ! They graduated from the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Springfield today and now they're off to protect their communities. Welcome to the best job in the world!

Members from Oakham Fire, Barre Fire, Petersham Fire, Barre Police, North Brookfield Police and the Massachusetts State Police completed the 2 Day 16 hour Active Attack Integrated Response program. This class offered by MADFS and the MPTC teaches Law Enforcement and Fire Fighters how to respond to and mitigate an active shooter or hostile event at different types of venues. These members trained together over the last 2 days to be better prepared to protect the communities they serve. With this class we now have almost all Oakham Firefighters trained in this new Standard.

With funding from the Department of Fire Services equipment grant a full gym was purchased and installed at the fire station. Tonight members worked out using the Mass Fire Academy recruit fitness program. The town spends thousands of dollars on equipment testing, hose testing and gear. We are now focusing on the most important resource, our members. Our goal is to keep the members in the same or better shape than the equipment.

This morning, our hearts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with the family of Boston Fire Department Firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr., and with his brothers and sisters of Rescue Company 2 and the entire Boston Fire Department. Words cannot fully express the profound grief felt across the fire service and throughout the Commonwealth as we mourn this tremendous loss.
