Starting this month, I am Oakland County will be de-briefing the monthly Oakland County Board of Commissioners meeting, letting you know what the Commission voted on and how your commissioner voted. We'll offer highlights and lowlights, photos and videos if we can, and a scoring system to keep track of your commissioner's voting record.

Here's the October meeting. It was a doozy.

Highlights:
- William Miller finding a spine
- Bob Hoffman quoting Gandhi and MLK and now everybody wants him as their grandpa (but watch what they do, not what they say!)
- Christine Long: Secret progressive??

Lowlights:
- Total sh*tshow
- Democratic commissioners compromising the safety of residents by voting to accept federal grants that mandate sharing information with ICE
- Gwen Markham walking out of public comment because it's "a waste of time"
- Democratic commissioners blocking votes on a whistleblower protection policy and no ICE on County property without a warrant
- And of course, Commission Chair Dave Woodward throwing a tantrum and shutting down public comment with people still in line

AGAIN. Just like in April, Dave Woodward wouldn’t let people speak because he didn’t like what they were saying.

Two more residents were lined up to make a public comment on an agenda item, but Dave threw a tantrum and wouldn’t let them. So it goes in Oakland County.

Don't look now, but it's more lies!

We're tired of being lied to and ignored. ALL residents in this county deserve safe access to County services.

Tomorrow, the Board of Commissioners will vote on one of the six community asks that ICE Out of Oakland County has been making: To ban ICE from all County property (not merely employee-only spaces). Join us tomorrow to tell the Board to vote YES!

CALL TO ACTION! Attend the Public Health & Safety committee meeting at 10:30 AM tomorrow, Tuesday, October 6! Let the commissioners know that the recent news that a former employee improperly accessed Flock surveillance data at least 58 times is more evidence that they should listen to the concerns of residents! No Flock, no mass surveillance, protect our privacy rights!

Here’s a story that will surprise no one (except maybe Oakland County Board of Commissioners’ Linnie Taylor and Angela Powell): Data collected by the county’s surveillance technology has been accessed and misused by a former deputy.

Hundreds of us, including the ACLU of Michigan, have been warning about this for months. When will the commission listen??

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating a former deputy who allegedly misused Flock camera surveillance data without authorization, raising new questions about who has access to the information and how it is being used. Ruta Ulcinaite has the story in the comments.

Amid all the assurances that Oakland County has no reason to worry about Flock and other surveillance technology, lo and behold there’s a criminal investigation. All the more reason to get to work NOW to elect 19 ethical commissioners who will be pro-privacy, pro-people and pro-democracy. 2028 starts now!

Oakland County Sheriff’s officials have confirmed detectives are conducting a criminal investigation into a former deputy’s use of Flock data.
